Since I did not want to take my main team up from the mid 30's, but still wanted the level 5 acheievement, I created a new conjurer, removed all but one of my wizards, and summoned 5 demons. I then removed the wizar from teh party and went to teh catacombs, got conjurer, magician, and sorcerer maxed out spells-wise from repeated entry into the first floor. then I went to the two good fights on teh thrid flor, as a wizard, and all in all less than an hour after creating the conjurer, I had a level 51 wizard.
The Temple of the Mad God, in Gran Plaz, is where you go to name the Mad God and enter that dungeon. There, on L3 of the Catacombs, you will find the Stone Eye. That's needed for the one-eyed Statue of the Mad God in L3 of Baron Harkyn's Castle. Also, the Name of the Mad God (Tarjan) is found on L2 of the Sewers below the Scarlet Bard Tavern. So, if you're following the "intended" progression: Sewers (for the name) ---> Catacombs (giving the name to the monks at the TotMG, and gaining the Stone Eye on L3 of the Catacombs) ---> Baron Harkyn's Castle (where you fight the Statue of the Mad God, but only if you have the Stone Eye when you get there).
The fight you're thinking of is four groups of 99 Berserkers (AKA The 396 Berserkers), on L3 of the Castle. The APAR coordinates are L3, N5, E12 -- but the fight has been modified so that it only fires off once.
As others have pointed out, there are better fights in the Catacombs beneath the Temple. L2 is not teleport shielded, so you can APAR to the stairs on L2 that go down to L3, go down to L3, and then make a quick circuit of a good six or seven repeating fights and take the stairs back up to L2 to reset those fights. Rinse-and-repeat for decent mid-level gear, good XP, and gold.
