Original Skara Brae Map
I bought the game earlier in the week and have only had time to fire it up tonight. Totally loving it and the memories are flooding back, including the image of Michael Cranford on my C64 cassette cover, looking like someone from Baywatch!
Anyway I just found this large image of the original map, nice to see again, and it seems to still be fairly accurate to this version of the game. I don't think we have all the old guardian statues though.

All of the guardian statues were there, last time I checked. Should be 3 Ogre Lords by Mangar's, 2 Stone Giants by the Kiosk Temple, 1 Stone Giant, 2 Golems, and 1 Grey Dragon by Harkyn's, and, of course, 1 Samurai before the Scarlet Bard. What's missing?

(Note that once you've defeated a guardian, it does not reappear after going back to the AG or leaving and then returning the game.)

Nice one! Looking at the old map it looks like you have a few extra guardian statues such as the one in Tempest Street on the left. I've noticed the ones in this game protecting iron gates etc, I thought there used to be more closing off parts of the city. I need more playtime and to explore more though, on level 3 characters at the mo. :)

Neat! What are the Stables on the map?

The one on Tempest is one of the aforementioned 3 Ogre Lords near Mangar's Tower. Two are on Night Archer and one is on Tempest.

I don't believe the stables actually offered or did anything in the game. Like with this version you are just told monsters have eaten all the horses or something lol.

Cheers thats cool. I was thinking there were some lower strength ones, such as a Barbarian one or something, maybe I am thinking of the Samurai guardian.

This is a great map, I remember it from when I had this map from the origenal box I used to play on my 286!

Ya, that map was great. It was the easiest way to find the Review Board and Roscoes, since they were the only other colored buildings, although they had no label. I still remember thinking, "Hey, what are these unlabeled buildings that are colored in? Maybe I should check those out" :)

Wow - you know what - I've played BT quite a bit over the years and had that map as my desktop wallpaper, and I _never_ noticed that the Review Board had a colored-in roof. I think the inn next door always drew my eye away from it. Good find!

Actually, the map link posted at the beginning is to an edited map. The coloring of the Review Board does not exist on others found around the Web: https://bardstaleonline.com/files/!maps/bt1-skara-brae.jpg

Yea now you mention it that does look more like what I had. I think I still have my game map and manual but it would mean delving into the forbidden cupboard of chaos, I'll see if I can dig it out one day lol.

Oh wow. Grinding the samurai was how I survived as a kid. Probably for the best, but I was oddly looking forward to doing that again in this playthrough.

Maybe it was only one of those two places that was colored in, or different in some way. Of course, that original box is long gone now, wish I would have kept them.
