Bard instrument type: Does it matter?

I was thinking that each bard song might require or, at least, be enhanced by a specific instrument type. Is this the case or are all instruments the same?

Nope, they are all the same until you find one thats magical.

all standard instruments (the ones you can buuy at garthes shop) are the same.
The instruments you can find that are named differently all have different properties. Lak's lyr, for example, gives you unlimted bard songs while equipped and the firehorn allows you to use it for a firebreathing attack if you have it equipped.

The only difference with the non magical ones is the sound coming out of the speakers. The mandolin will sound like midi mandolin. The flute will sound like midi flute.

The bards tale 3 was fun for me when I played it back on the C64 since you could use "drums" and all you would hear is the melody of the song being played on drums.
