Best Stats for a Bard?
There really is nothing denoting what he can do, so help on creating one would be great...

Is he a Fighter-type character, or does he need high Dexterity for some reason related to Songs?

You just want DEX to avoid hits and CON to absorb hits.

I don't think there's a stat that governs songs except level.

It's hard to get that combonation of stats. No bard races have good con and dex at the same time. Shame that half-orcs can't be one.

I'd suggest dwarf - go for his max of 14 dex and 17 con (and try to get a high hp). On level ups aim for dex increases.

Second the dwarf suggestion. Max con. Then dex for Initiative.

The biggest reason for high Dex is to go early in the initiative order. With the Fire Horn equipped (from the starting party equipment) the Bard is your biggest damage dealer for a long time. Having that go early in the turn order saves a lot of damage because one monster group simply won't exist any more after it's been activated. Just don't waste it on really weak fights. You can recharge it by selling it to Garth's with only a few charges left and then buy it back. It'll be recharged to 50 again.

Con/int are good for all of the characters early on, since you don't get retroactive hp/sp. Str only gives a small boost and just for 17 or 18....it's nice on a melee char, but no rush and I wouldn't worry too much even if you have a 3.

For a bard, they don't need int, so as mentioned con/dex are the most important. I would even go so far as to say aim for DEX on a bard as primary (only class I would say this for), still aim for as high of a con as you can get though.

Bards can front line (4th slot) just fine, and higher dex will help with that a ton. Also it affects how early/fast you attack, and bards have items they can use (like the fire horn), that can obliterate entire groups.

So for the early game, having a 18 dex bard is easy mode basically.

I think Humans can get 16 dex though, and like 14 or so con, so you could go with a human bard with max dex, level that up asap (save scum), and then get the con up afterwards.

you guys are heavily over thinking this :) you get +1 stat every level regardless, so I always roll so that they'll have all 18's around level 24. Not that hard to achieve.
