Spells you actually use
Sorry if this has already been posted. So I use:
greater revelation, magic compass (and items for levitation, sorcerer's sight, ybarra's COA)
Wind dragon for the 7th character
Mind blade for attacking
Restoration of healing
Trap Zap
Apport Arcane, Scry Sight and Phase Door for exploring
and that's pretty much it, with the odd dispossess or deathstrike. Am I missing out on anything worthwhile? Still seems like a lot of the magic just doesn't come into play.

I use YMCA, MACO, SOSI, GRRE, and MALE almost always. I do tend to try to use REST when appropriate. I mostly use Dragonbreath and starflare for combat, though mindblade can be useful. I also use Mind Fist for single target attacks, or spectral touch when things are a long ways away. Force focus is pretty cool, but it's too short range to be used too much. In 2, Mangar's Mallet, Batch Spell, and Heal All are huge boons.

REDE (Repel Dead) I use extensively. Only costs 4 mana and does enough damage to kill pretty much any group of undead in the game.

BASK (Battle skill) I use against a few mob types that are very difficult to hit in melee combat.

Pretty much everything else if the same as you two have listed above.

Higher level spell casters have MIJA and MIFI. Give you 2-8 damage, per spell level. Level 70 casters do some damage.

Besides the exploration spells like YMCA and MACO, I use REST quite often, and DMST in Mangar's tower. I generally use whichever summons is currently most expensive. FLRE gets a lot of use prior to getting REST. I agree that REDE is quite useful and strong. I'll use the level 1 light spells in areas where I'm popping into and out of Darkness a lot. DIIL is sometimes handy, and more so in BT2. BEDE saves you tons of money once you get it.

Besides the ones mentioned, APAR is great for grinding. Enter the catacombs, APAR to each of the major battles in levels 1 and 2, then to the stairs down on level 2 (you can't APAR to 3), do the next couple of big battles there, and APAR to the temple exit on level 1 (or simply repeat the major battles, which reset every time you change floors).

This may make the game a bit too easy, though.

MIFI, MIBL, APAR, YMCA, SOSI, REST

All are the best! :spell:

I use Star Flare for foes who are 40 feet away. Anti Magic is good to cast against spell casters especially when you are not high level and don't repel spells very often. I used Wrath of Valhalla a few times as well in big fights.

force focus is handy at times

Thanks for the replies. Yes, forgot to mention MIJA and MIFI, both nice. Did not know about REDE.
