Whats the point of Daggers?
So I've been playing for quite some time now but from the start on I didn't understand why I should give any of my characters any kind of Dagger.
The standard dagger you can buy right at the start does exactly as much damage as not using a weapon at all.
The Mithrill Dagger does less damage then all other Mithrill weapons so I gave my Rouge a Mithrill Mace instead.
So can anyone tell my what the point of Daggers is when they are seemingly objectively worse then any other weapon?

I made a thread a while back that mentioned this. A dagger is, as far as I can tell, useful in exactly one scenario: a 1st level Monk without exceptional Strength. Ironically, a 1st level Monk has the *worst* unarmed damage of any other class, including casters. The Monk does 1-2 damage, while everyone else does 1-4.

Why would you give a 1st level monk a dagger instead of a halberd?

I think the point of a dagger is its tip :steamhappy:

I suspect that the purpose of daggers is to have a weapon that spellcasters can equip... :) You know, just in case you want your 24th level wizard to melee attack something.

A bit more seriously, there are a number of weapon types (daggers, staffs, maces, and I think one or two others) that are included simply because "They are included in D&D, and this game is obviously based off of D&D". There are magical daggers that are worthwhile (the stone dagger being the most obvious of these), but I'm fairly confident that they are included because if they didn't, it would look odd.

The only daggers I used were the Thief Dagger which makes it easier for your rogue to hide in shadows. And later the Death Dagger which makes it so your thief crits every attack.

I could make a barbed comment about this rather pointed remark.

The best weapon I found thus far is a dagger +4 (Edict).
You don't have to use a weapon, if you don't like it. They are there because everyone loves variety and would scream, if there was only one uni-weapon in game. Daggers are useful as second-hand weapons, if you are dual-wielding, and there is even an archetype for them (knife master).
Technically the damage dice of a weapon are not critical. It is the static bonus which kills. What do I care about the 1d6 in my 1d6+25? And don't ask me how I got that bonus, because I cannot figure it out myself. It might be a special weapon, but if that is true, the tooltip is woefully incomplete.

A Rogue automatically kills the target if you manage to hit it after hiding in shadows.

A Diamond dagger have +5 to hit, which is the highest to-hit bonus for a Rogue for a very long time. A Rogue have NO use for 'damage' whatsoever, and will quickly cap at 95% Hide in Shadows anyway (so the Thief Dagger is fools gold).

I combine Diamond Dagger (+5) with an Arcshield (+3). My Rogue killed every boss, sometimes solo after everyone else was stoned or dead, and take down monsters with thousands of hitpoints.

You guys are lucky I argued so hard to get them to make hide in shadows happen before everything else in combat. :D
