Can't dunk

I understand that I need to run to the basket (using RT) and then use the right stick to dunk. This isn't working. My player (no matter who) always stops and does a jump shot.

I'm trying this in freestyle mode. I've tried a million different positions and angles - nothing's happening. Except jump shots.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

Try using X or Square depending on your controller and see if that helps. I know there is a setting somewhere that lets you choose what the "pro stick funtion" is. That might be whats causing your problems. Hope this helps

You're probably pressing the right stick or square too soon.
Start sprinting towards the basket, but don't press square before you get to the painted area.
If you do, your player justs stops and shoots.

Thanks guys, but no, that's not it. I get jump shots no matter where I use the right stick. Even when I'm directly under the basket.

The only thing I can think of is your controller not working properly and the game not detecting multiple inputs at the same time.
You're obviously not dumb, so it has to be a technical issue.
You can't dunk with a center right under the basket?

Correct, I can't dunk right under the basket.

My controller is pretty old so I thought you might be right - I tried using my keyboard to verify this, but I cannot dunk using my keyboard either.

This is weird. Did I buy a different game than everyone else? :-(

I'd suggest going in and making sure your "pro stick function" setting is correct. The way you're describing it either has to be that or a broken controller.

Could someone do me a favour and try using a keyboard to dunk? Standard controls is Num Pad Enter for sprinting and Num pad 5 to shoot (or the other Num Pad numbers for the right stick moves). Move around with WASD.

I wonder if dunking isn't possible with a keyboard at all - in which case I couldn't use it to verify if my controller is broken.

It works with a keyboard, obviously.
Go into windows device manager and there's an option to test the controller iirc. You can see all the pressed buttons and if they respond.
Can you do other multi-button actions?

I've tested the controller - every button is responding. RT does behave oddly it takes a while for it to recalibrate. This would suggest that a broken RT button could be to blame. However, I can't dunk with my keyboard either, which suggests that it is not a controller issue.

Other multi-button actions do work (icon pass or what it's called).

As for the archetype - I'm trying this in freestyle mode with different players.

Nevermind guys, it works now.

I tried it using the Celtics' Center before and he didn't dunk. Now he suddenly does.

Most probable explanation: I thought I was using the Center but didn't actually use him. Let's hope that's what it is and not some technical issue that'll occur again.

You are having the same issue as me, start doing the button procedure before hitting the paint! You are being too close to the basket!
