If you can't access the game at all now because of updates, try this potential solution from the 2K18 forum (folder number updated to 2K19 in the quote):

I was able to get mine to work by going to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\(Your Number will be here)\841370\remote And removing all of the files in that directory.

I don't really want to start a new character, I have over 450 games played with this one, all with 12 mi quarters. There's no way to continue it offline?

If NBA 2K18 was any indication, there is no way to convert an online career to an offline one. You would have to start again.

That's not happening, almost 900 hours of playtime with one character. :) I guess I'm done with 2K games then, but thanks for the answer anyway :)

As per the official 2K Support Twitter account, the NBA 2K19 servers will be shut down on December 31st, 2020. After that point, all online content will be unavailable. This includes Play Now Online, MyTEAM, and the entirety of MyCAREER and its connected modes
