I'm having this issue and I see others having it too.
A game should never do something that causes the OS to be in a unrecoverable state.
I see that I can set it to Windows 8 compatibility mode and start the game from outside of Steam but I'm not even trying that for now, for the reason I mentioned before. When the devs update the game to be more safe for my OS then I'll consider buying it again someday. Right now, sorry, but this is unacceptable. Unless the developers explain what the game is doing behind the scenes to cause a BSOD (I've never had one before since I installed Windows 11).
Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you.
If you call a support person, give them this info: Stop code: KERNEL_security_check_failure.
Why doesn't it work on my computer?
This is not working for me. I get BattleEye running in Task Manager and then hit the green Play button for OOTOW in Steam but game will not start.
I get:
12:28:15: Failed to initialize BattlEye Service: Driver Load Error (2148204812).
