Outlaws of the old west - how to save your games breakthrough
SAVING GAMES and PROFILES in Outlaw's of the old west and loading them at will

After a couple of weeks of frustration an hour or so each night trying to figure out this game's save location so I could edit in it (I finally found it!) I wanted to do a lot of things like start my profile (All new) - make up a different character and set out into the wild west for a new escapeaway guy with a beard (But NO) after I bumbly created my first ball headed character in underwear on my first game (I was stuck with it no matter what) I created junk - even a small cabin. I used the console cheats (Shift+tilde key) - had fun but I wanted to get my charater right and all what I did.. I had crap created all over the place in the plains to the desert but I was still this ball headed man-- I wanted a (some hair some diff colored underwear-- but no joy) I tried everything- all in the my user name app data local outlaws save game location to the outlaws (Install location) deleting and all kinds of stuff in it's (Windows server) location - running the game only to get not only nowhere but it loaded all sorts of wierd saves. I would copy stuff back in and test- no joy.. Almost giving up I figured the saves were in some sort of Steam cloud storage or something- I turned that (off) no joy.. I was stuck with the only way to create a (start over character) was to just uninstall from Steam and re install from scratch-- once again - no joy - the game crashes.. Later finding that it leaves files behind and that caused it. I delete anything (Outlaws) on my PC and re install-- (Finally all works from scratch) I create a new character (A woman this time!- as I want my wife to see it was all) all good - (NOW) start again and figure out how to copy wherever (These saved files are) and save them as backup,,, as I want to create a new male character and do my thing too like I want.. ANYWAY --I found out how-- It is a little bit complicated but if you want what I enjoy now - Read the below.............

(How to manually copy files from Outlaws of the old west and save them- delete them - make a new character - save it - play it - delete it - write another back in from your saves)
Right now (in my mind) this is simple to do (But!) This requires those with PC maneuvering skills- You must need to know how to navigate your PC drive and folders.
(Windows 10) Steam Installs (Outlaws of the old west) in C:/Program files (X86)/steam/steamapps/common/Outlaws of the Old West --- (This is where you need to go ) Open the (Outlaws of the Old West) folder and (IN IT) you will find a folder called (WindowsServer) -- open it and find the folder (Outlaws) Open it and then in it open the folder (Content) CongratZ- you are there !! Where (Everything gets saved as you progress in the game) The file extentions that are your saves end with are -( .osf ) Here is an example one (20190410T191502860Z.osf) This is what one of mine looks like- it is like a Microsoft flight sim .xml guide number-- Ha! (These and these alone) are your saved progress in Outlaws of the old west. As you progess (more are created) in OL of the WW folder (Content).

THE GOAL IS
(Copy and paste these files you have auto created) into a special saved new folder- re name your new folder to whatever name represents (What you were in the game- where you are -ect) So you will know
(Now your profile and game progress is saved as a backup - for writting in later)
HOW TO START OVER WITH A NEW PROFILE AND SAVE IT AND IT'S PROGRESS TOO
Simply (delete) all the ( .osf ) files that are in your C:/Program files (X86)/steam/steamapps/common/Outlaws of the Old West/WindowsServer/Outlaws/Content - re start Steam -the game and (Boom) you are at the profile screen (AS NEW)-- (Make up a cool new character - diff hair - diff color underwear- diff gender- diff race-- anything) Click (OK) Start game--break out of your wood coffin as this new person-- mess around -whatever then just exit the game to desktop-- Go back to C:/Program files (X86)/steam/steamapps/common/Outlaws of the Old West/WindowsServer/Outlaws/Content - in there (Copy) all of the newly created ( .osf files) and simply (Save it in a new folder- re named to whatever your character or progress is) Now (It too is saved and can be re used) For example copy back in your original ( .osf files) (NOTE- I suggest to DELETE any previous .osf files) before copying in another set .. that way it is clean.. That is what I do.. I chk that out later.

FINAL GOAL and WARNINGS
(DO NOT DELETE ANY THING IN THE FOLDER of your OL of the WW (CONTENT) I DIRECT YOU TO IN THIS TUTORIAL EXCEPT FILES THAT END WITH THE EXTENSION .osf) Or your game could crash and need re install at steam laumcher
Another example of what these files look like that are safe to copy- paste- delete at will -- EXPL (20190410T191502860Z.osf) These files are your profile and save progress

Final note - My wife and I keep a cute 5 yr old black fella (smart as a whip) at our house on some weekends - He loves this game- we play it for hours.. Now I can let him create his own character from scatch.. save it - and I can with a simple overwrite load his own game and he can do whatever he wants.. I can later load other saves.. GrEaT gAmE

Ummmm, all you have to do is go into options - gameplay while in single player and you can delete your single player game and start over.... lmao

Deleting your character in the game does only that, & it leaves the world unchanged. So any structures you built in the world would still be there, but would not be accessible due to being "some other players...". Not even re-creating a character with the exact same name would allow you to use those structures.

So if want to save a copy of the world & character, then just deleting the player as GeneralKayoss, states would not work.

Yes, that is the point. Using this copy and paste proceedure allows one to create different characters- go out into singleplayer world - create your world- exit and save that character and world. Copy in another character - save that world -and so on- character after character and world after world - At will load any character and world and you do not have to (start over) like you would in (Options-gameplay-delete-start over) This method saves each character and world progress wherever you left off at - no starting over from the coffin.

I love that you informed us that you "keep a cute 5yr old black fella (smart as a whip) at your house on some weekends", as if this is pertinent to the details of this post.

Yeah it is important as he was so into the game and wanted his own character- I told him so far there is no way to do that unless I delete everything we worked on together up to that point that he liked creating So I (for him) spent a lot of time trying to figure this out before we get to keep him soon again. I would not of even messed with this if it was for myself alone. This info would not be on here if it were not for him as I want to see him have the fun of his life creating his own cowboy character and we can also keep (saved copy) of our original game memories too.. That is relevant

UPDATE - If you use this method I have posted make sure you (Delete) any (osf) files in the (Content folder) before you copy in any of your personally saved osf files or it might load another save you had. - Im outta here - Bye

I've been studying the files, but I haven't quite figured out how to edit them yet. I want to keep the same character, name, etc., but maybe change only the hair style, color etc. Same with horses. I have a beautiful, all black horse that I would hate to lose. I believe cheating with the console control just gives you a random horse. Fun times.

You cannot save things within the game as you are in it. with this method This method is a save your character and progress (as you go) and manually copy n paste and load at will... you need to know how to do that.... Games today all have a (No editor pak) In other the entire game is it's own (god) - you have to do what they want - it saves automatically as you go.. (But) in this particular game it does not matter if you spent 4 hours in it but you get killed by a bear-- You have to (start all over) all progress is lost... Shame that devs do not make games like Microsoft flight sim 10 anymore where the players can use tools to do their own thing .. God forbid that you can actually (sell addons you make to the game) It is (All - as we say in the USMC - FUBAR

Where are you getting the idea that if you get killed you have to start all over??? I have been killed so many times since I have started this game, & not once did i have to start completely over!

Never do you die and have to start all over again.

There's not really much of a reason why we can't just push a button in game and do this ourselves. Certainly the developers are working on this.

Update - If you can buy the (barber shop) in it you can change your profile- different hair - skin color- beards- the works.. I think it cost you an additional $1000,00 though per visit per visit changeover haircut shave.. wierd - or wired
cappalot Apr 13, 2019 @ 5:15pm
Update 2- Just tried the barbershop again - yes it cost you a thousand dollars per shave- Also it does not let you change your gender (If you are into that type thing)

Other test - I did let myself get killed by a buffalo-- And when the game re loaded (yes) I still had my Profile but I was in my underwear and with (no) items in my inventory .. There was nothing in my inventory and was (starting all over) with nothing but my profile.. in the middle of nowhere with nothing.. mayby I am missing something .. let me know - Thanks
