what is an rp server?

That can depend on how that server works. It may be entirely voice based where you put on silly accents that you think your guy/girl would sound like, and try to simulate their life when around other players. Look at examples of GTA or ARK:survival roleplay. Mostly pve styled, but you might decide to fight other players depending on what happens within it.

Otherwise, it could be text based, where the Emotes look like this in chat.

*The fleet-footed gentleman wandered up to the small shack, the rumbling of a fire inside had caught his attention. With hand on his pistol, he gave the door three solid thumps, as if the people inside had not heard the roll and click of his spurred boots.*

And then the people inside should respond. Again, Pvp may ensue. They could throw open the door and shoot at you, or emote back a few times and then shoot at you. You might make a friend there! Who knows. Examples of this RP is perhaps World of Warcraft or more DnD styled roleplaying.

That would confirm similar to pve-c cant base raid but can kill each other.

It's quite possible. They're using some of the same assets Conan Exiles used. I'm assuming that's the case this is no way representative of fact. I haven't completely setup a dedicated server yet, but you could test it by doing so as well if you wanted. It's relatively easy and here is a link to a setup guide that will get you started. Setting up your own dedicated server to play around on and test would also help the developers out if you find and report bugs.

RP as it stands now is really PVP and how they kill you or you kill them depends on the admin/s running it. It comes down to if you're not controlling the server you have to roll play in advance of killing anyone. Those controlling the server sometimes roll play and sometimes try and kill you as you try to roll play in advance . You could get attacked defend yourself and be banned for not roll playing usually if you kill them. On most RP servers you are expected to be target practice or be wiped. Usually you can be raided but as nothing more than target practice you should not be raiding yourself.

For those who say you can not raid on RP this may be true until they change the server to PVP for the purpose of doing so. changing from PVE, PVP or RP only needs a short down time and no wipe is needed. You can come on to admins telling you it is not possible in RP. Who you going to believe them or your own eyes LOL
