Someone tell me how multiplayer works

I'm not finding as much info about the multiplayer as I want, how is it?

What I've found is that:
> you cannot explore together (something about a free roam-ish sandbox type)
> you can join extra quests to kill monsters or bosses.

But how big is each part? Is there a huge solo story mission cut apart from multiplayer? is this exploration map huge?

I normally only play coop games with my husband and we do EVERYTHING together, it would be quite boring if this was just like.. certain missions dropin or something

There is a hub that opens up after some story quests. You can then select multiplayer quests to embark on. These quests include dungeon runs and some large, boss only fights.

No free roam co-op, nor can you complete the story together. Story is broken up into several big, free-roam zones (maps) that have bosses on them as well as dungeons to complete.

There is a YouTube channel ran by a guy called Havian. He goes into much detail about all SAO games. Maybe check his channel and search for Lost Song videos, I know he did a “Should you play this” type video.
