Angry reviewers - bad controller support, our rude character
I just read two reviews mentioning they played with controllers and couldn't move in inventory or on foot properly. They were angry they had to go back to mouse and keyboard. It's not my concern because I don't use controller. It's just seemed funny that majority of their negativity was about that technical thing they could simply solve by not playing with inferior way of playing game on PC. And maybe this a warning to people who prefer controllers over m+k for any reason, you may wanna wait for fix or just come play like most of us PC users play.

Another big thing that bothered others was the voice actor of our playable character. I am disappointed I can not comment on these, because reviewers seemed to misunderstand game for simple walking simulator in beautiful forests with scary fairy tale story. So another warning comes to people who do not come for a story whatever it may be.

They could wait for the xbox or playstation game. When did this whole controller madness actually begin? Mostly of this horror adventures are so-called indie games with just a handfull of developers and not 100 producers. So: Step by Step.

That's a little condescending, don't you think? Some people prefer to play with controller (myself included). Some people play on their TV etc. And the truth is, the controller support in SYR is currently somewhat underwhelming, clearly an afterthought.

The breaking point for these seems to be controller support in the description. I certainly did not read about such issues in before-release reviews so they could not expect such disappointment, it just seems like minor issue when you have a chance to swap between controller and m+k.

I know about consoles, but you know, these reviewers actually said they had to use k+m, so their problem could be easily fixed. Another topic if this game was console version or only console exclusive. Then complaint would make sense to me.

Compared to the terrible stealth and enemy mechanics, those complaints do indeed seem trivial.

And that is where I did not progress yet, but that is good example. Better mention real game breakers than something so trivial.

There are reasons many gamers play with controller on PC nowadays - a big TVs are common now, they can be easily connected to modern graphics cards, and games like this are especially suitable for a big screen. Plus controller has better ergonomics for gaming, K+M gives me a carpal tunnel pain. So there is no excuse for imperfect controller support in a modern game on PC. Another criticism I noticed is about the main character and lack of guidance. I understand why some people do not want to play as unlikeable person. Yes, there are surely story reasons for it, but still a player spends with the main protagonist whole game and for some it can be just too annoying. But it is just a matter of taste. What is worse in my opinion is lack of guidance in some places that even most professional reviewers mentioned. Objectives should be clear enough and also some hint system when player is lost would be useful. For example going around huge area for a long time looking for some tiny object can be quite frustrating and immersion breaking.

I can not speak much about guidance, so far, I have been progressing slowly, currently still solving the door code. I have seen one person hating on game because this quest right here. I can see why, because I have to look into every corner and read all notes all over again. And the quest-line seems to be linear so far.
Maybe it is me getting used to their puzzles, I played their previous game which was not long time ago and few of those puzzles seemed to really be dependent on pure randomness. Here however, I have the clues, it requires back tracking. I can only see more reasons why people hate puzzles here later in the game.

Console hating 'master racers' really need to drop this controller hating crap, its not 2004 anymore, controllers have been a big part of PC gaming since the 360 launched.
The whole point of PC gaming is the freedom it brings to use what you want, play how you want, etc.
That Steam article from last year said 60mil Steam users have a controller connected on their PC. Sure that doesnt mean 60mil Steam users use a controller to game, but obviously millions do or they wouldnt have a controller connected in the first place.
Also sometimes its out of the players hands. I have a back injury that means i am a couch gamer, and have little choice about it. Controlers are perfect for me in that situation.

I know about it, in most cases it is laughable how people argue about somebody s preference. I was mostly assuming it is unnecessary to hate on game because the controller does not work properly, and I can not blame them for that, because game is supposedly supported and other reviews did not mention such issues, but the option both had and mentioned was using K+M when the game does not work with controller. I understand people can not or do not want to sit at PC long time for whatever reason. I see the simple solution, they see the thing why they can not enjoy the game. And I will repeat, they mostly wrote a lot of negatives about controller not being optimal and review of the rest was barely mentioned. Compared to some other horribly wrote reviews, at least they stated their anger specifically. Other reviewers tend to just write random nonsense.

Another big complaint is the price, not only for this game, but many people seem to be annoyed by price similar to this, I will not get much into that. This is funny when I add people complain about graphics. Both price and graphics can be seen before the purchase. Maybe if pictures on store page were not true to real gameplay, I would not say anything, however it is same and people still have negative opinions about it.

The reason people brought up the controller is simply because the store used to say it had full controller support, when in reality it 'worked' but the prompts weren't showing controller inputs and certain aspects weren't mapped to the controller very well. So, from the outside, you thought you were getting a game with full support when it was technically a partially supported title, despite it working okay once you learn the controls.

I mentioned in our review the issues with the controller (I'm a console gamer, I don't like using the keyboard so I use my controller in PC games), but advised the developers are still updating the game and it is playable and you can beat the game with the controller (as I did), but it's just not fully worked into the UI yet.

In regards to the price issue, I don't get it. It took me 17 hours to complete, so £30ish is a decent price. I got the bad ending and didn't collect everything, so if you're trying to be a completionist, expect about 10-15 more hours on top of that. The amount shouldn't be based on length though, it should be based on quality, and I thought this game was great. I even loved the voice acting, which some people complained about as they clearly didn't complete the game and find out why Daniel is a ♥♥♥♥ all of the time.

Playing with a gamepad is much smoother for a lot of games. Keyboard and mouse only really have any advantage in games that require quick precision like shooters or with too many shortcuts to map to a gamepad.

The stealth and enemy mechanics are very far from terrible. At their worst, they're just plain standard.

Controller support is at least partial and developers promised quick fix for full support which is fine. If unpleasant character is needed for the story, I can probably get used to it. I also like stealth games but only those where you can also fight if necessary. Games where you have to just hide and still enemies sometimes see you through walls, rocks etc. so constant reloading is needed are just annoying IMHO. At least such sequences should be used very sparsely. I also dislike getting often lost in confusing environment (like mazes etc.) and frequent backtracking - it should be limited to minimum too for me to enjoy the game. I'm afraid that this game has too much of it because of its length. BTW, I saw approx. third of gameplay on YouTube and will not continue watching because of spoilers. I consider buying the game for console (my PC does not have minimal specs but developers promised port for consoles in the future) but will read more reviews before final decision.

Everyone has their preferences...and I am always an each to their own kind of guy, but you cannot convince me playing an FP or FPS game is better with a controller. Now I am not against controllers on a PC. I use my PS4 controller, especially with platform games, which feel more natural to me on a controller. However, with an FP focused or an FPS game a controller is weird for me. However, I will concede to the point that saying the game has full controller support in the store and not supplying it is an issue. I however disagree that a PC game has to have controller support anymore than a PS4 or Xbox game has to have keyboard and mouse support.
