Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved

Game suddendly doesn't work anymore.
So I played the game for about 11 minutes in total. Decided to launch it today and it doesn' t respond. Steam says I am in-game but the game will not start at all.

Tried editing the .xml file, didn't help. I also created a .bat file like someone suggested and it didn't work either. Should I refund this? It is one of my favorite games and I used to play it in PGR 2 on the OG xbox.

edit : I also verified game files.

Damn, this forum is dead, where are the developers?

For mine I just had to set it in compatibility mode for XP service pack 2 and disable fullscreen optimizations and it started working.

You should list your OS and your computer specs.

About all I can tell you is that I do not use Win10, and it's working for me on Win 7. From what I can tell, Win10 appears to have problems for many. Win 7 tends to have much better XP compatibility.

You might have some luck by running testapp.exe found in Geometry Wars directory.

You can run testapp.exe from the game folder. That is the actual game executable that doesn't need steam.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Geometry Wars\testapp.exe

Went for a refund because it doesn't work on my pc either. Steam denied it. Says there is no issue.

Steam literally refund anything if you have under 2 hours play time and have owned it for fewer than two weeks

Here's what worked for me (Win11, i9-14900KF). Adjust the path to GeometryWars.exe if you installed it somewhere different.
  1. Right click --> Properties on Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved in your Steam Library
  2. In "Launch Options", paste the following:
    C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C Start /Normal /Affinity FFFFFFFE "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Geometry Wars\GeometryWars.exe" %command%
