Game flat out doesn't work at all
Got the game a few months ago, and finally got around to trying it out (played it and loved it on my XBox 360).

Anyway, where's what happens when I try to start the game. My Resolution is severely lowered (I'd say 640x480 or less). The game doesn't start at all, and I occasionally get an error that says "Steam not Found." I am unable to exit the "game" and generally end up having to restart the computer.

I tried verifying the cache. I tried running the game in compatibility mode. Not too sure what else to try at the moment.

Company's gone. No support from them. I waited too long to try the game, so no refund or real support from Steam.

Any idea what I can do? Thanks all

Try editing the config.xml file.

It’s under C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Bizarre Creations\Geometry Wars Retro Evolved.

I changed the screen height and screen width there along with setting keepAspectRatio to “true”.

Failing this try deleting config.xml. A new one is created when you load the game. Altering the setting in the help and options menu also seemed to work after the original config was deleted.

Good luck.

Same issue here. Would be nice if the game actually worked.

Norton doesn't seem to want me to have the file after i download it. Says it's unsafe.

I tried the patch and that didn't work either.... Game still runs on my desktop but not my laptop.

I was having this same issue after i built my new PC (windows 10). I went into the game files where it is installed and there was a file there called testapp with the geometry wars ship icon. I double clicked that and it opened the game. Seemed too simple but I am playing it now. Hopefully it works for you too. I created a shortcut for that method on the desktop.

You can rename testapp.exe to GeometryWars.exe to run from Steam.

If anyone is still having trouble, I was able to fix this by changing some settings in my config file. Open "C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Bizarre Creations\Geometry Wars Retro Evolved\config.xml in notepad.

Find the following lines and change them to what you see here:
antiAlias="false"
windowWidth="640"
windowHeight="480"
keepAspectRation="false"

Now launch the game and adjust the resolution if necessary. In my case my window width was set to 1137, which was causing the game to freeze 2 seconds after it launched. Once I did this I was able to fix my resolution and play the game properly. It also doesn't hurt to make a backup of this file before you edit it. Hope this helps someone!

Why your window width was set to 1137?

Having this issue on one of a few of my computers for some unknown reason, the fix was to go to the steam appdata directory, find geometry wars.exe, right click on it, select compatibility settings, and check "Disable fullscreen optimizations".
