Haven't worked out the chisel might be bugged?
I managed to get flint slate but injured myself in the process lol. I wasn't sure how to actually knap it... I'll try again.
That's how I figured out, just started hitting the rock against things lol. I miss the old crafting system, it was daunting but that's what I liked about it.
1-To craft items, you must open the crafting menu by pressing "T" (on the ground for basic crafting, or on a workbench for advanced crafting, if you have already assembled a workbench), select a recipe and place it in a valid location on the ground (it will turn green instead of red), then click "Confirm". You can exit the crafting menu now and find the correct materials for the recipe. once acquired, walk up to the recipe and you should be able to press "F" to add the item into the recipe. If you can't add the item, it's probably the wrong item.
2-Recipes will often require a specific kind of "Stone". There are 3 main types of stones, being Limestone (white colour thumbnail), Quartz (brown colour thumbnail), and Basalt (dark colour thumbnail). When you look at them on the ground they will all just be titled "Stone", but if you pick them up and hover your cursor over them in the inventory, you can see their type (except for Basalt. It does not show it's type for some reason, but the larger version of it is called "Basalt Block"). The recipes will show the thumbnail for the type of stone you need. For example, to make the Chisel, you specifically need Basalt (Limestone and Quartz wont work for the recipe). Once you find one, you can hit or throw it against a Large Rock to break it down into stone slate. this can then be added to the Chisel recipe. (side note: Flint and Obsidian are also stone-like materials that are used in crafting recipes, but have their own names so it is a bit less confusing)
3. The node actions sometimes require holding specific items that can perform the required action. If you're holding a wrong item there will be a red "False", or if it is a correct item there will be a green "True". To see what kind of actions an item can perform, hover your cursor over it in the inventory. For things like Grind and Hammer, stones work good (any kind). For Knap, you'll need to be holding Flint. So for making the Biface, you will need two pieces of Flint, one broken down into a Flint Slate. Add the Flint Slate to the recipe, and then while holding the other Flint in your hand, look at the recipe and hold left-mouse. Once you have the Biface, it can perform Cut actions, and the Chisel can perform the Chisel action (although you need to be holding a stone in your other hand aswell for the chisel action to work). You can perform some actions such as Tie and Weave with your bare hands. Polish can be done by the daggers (either Flint or Obsidian).
4. Some materials are hard to find. Limestone seems to be everywhere. Basalt can sometimes be found on the ground in certain biomes, but seems to be easiest to acquire by breaking down larger rocks (Most large rocks are Limestone, but Basalt ones look kinda mossy. I have not found a Quartz one yet). Flint can be found in riverbeds or lakeshores, or sometimes as a by-product while breaking down larger rocks. Obsidian is on the mountains. Plant Fiber can be acquired from cutting ferns with a Biface, or cutting down trees with a hatchet. You will also get sticks from cutting down trees or bushes/wildflowers. (side note, if you double tap space it will allow you to enter a flying mode, to travel to other biomes quickly. Just be careful, it's easy to lose your previous location)
5. Some recipes are not working properly. The Palm Leaf clothing (all 3), the Fight Stick, and the Wooden Shield all fail to turn into items when I completed the recipe, and instead just stayed in recipe form. The Spinning Stone just disappeared upon completion. I was not able to place the Flint Sickle blueprint on the ground anywhere. And a number of recipes require ingredients that are not in the game yet.
Hope this helps!
