Sure, adding a few informative snippets to give context to some myths and concepts apart from a straight-forward translation might be a good idea, but it's not like the Chinese would have a terribly hard[er] time understanding the Trojan War cycle, works of Sophocles or Euripides or Tacitus' Germania than "westerners" do. Or playing contemporary games based on them. And these documents are older than, for example, 三國志 (Records of the Three Kingdoms). So I'm just going to guess this also applies vice versa - a reasonably decent translation would enable most people to understand most of what is going on, right?

This is what Ithought in the first place. I am working on German translation. I must say I am stunned and most of the times I simply want to cry.

If we mention "Chinese" as a language, it is always considered as a "difficult language". It frightent us. Their sing sang, their writings. But actually Chinese has a really simple grammar, so in the beginning if you could build up some vocabulary and find your way through the pronounsation, you can basically speak Chinese very easily.

But, here it comes:

In Chinese language, they have this tricky words, mostly consist of four characters. They call them Cheng Yu (literally : set phrases)You could find Chengyu also in Japanese. Behind each Chengyu, you’ll discover tales, myth, experiences, moral concepts, or admonishments from the older generations of Chinese people. Basically, they reduced an A5 page story to four character. And there are like 20000 Chengyu in Chinese language, still in use maybe some 5000 ? They still use these words today in common daily speech.

The lead writer is a very literate man, he used these damn little words everywhere. From Skillname to attribute and covers a wild range of knowledge, from traditionall Chinese medicine, music, material arts to taoism, buddhism, astrology...

I'll give you an example: they put traits system in the game, which is by the way great, but he used 2 Chengyu for one trait!!!! For instance for the trait:"reflective" which give you a little boost on inner (mental) stability, he used 香自苦寒 as trait name(fragrance is intensified after tough cold time) , which is derived from another poem 梅花香自苦寒来 ( the fragrance of plum blossom is intensified after tough cold winter, which is a parable for good virtue and talent need to be trained and one have to overcome hard and difficult challenge, putting up with bad condition etc.) and HERE IT FOLLOWS WITH ANOTHER ONE TO SPECIFY WHAT HE REALLY MEANT: 动心忍性 (When one's heart is temped(by something), one should still restrain oneself's temper.)

and scroll of taiwu is full of these ... fine words.

yes, yes , it is so beautiful and naitive Chinese they all love it. But it put all translations in front of a dilemma: should we abandon these beautiful words, simplefied these terms and replace them with a word forsake of understanding? Because in my opinion we can't keep them, at least not all of them. It is tiresome for non-asians. But how could we deliver the beauty, elegance or strength of these skills when we replace them? Basically WuXia is all about material art and fancy cool move. A chinese can tell: OH WOW FANCY SKILL. THIS ONE IS BETTER THAN THE OHTER! only by reading their name. But this game is not like dynasty warriors, in which you can see awesome musou and visualised combat style, they put fighting scene in classic shadowed figure... (at least for EA)

Conship studio is a four (now maybe five) manned team, they worked 3 years under poor condition developing this game. The programmer left the team after a year for living, and the lead writer took his task and learnt how to code. Well maybe he was blessed by the god tier cricket, somehow it worked. Right now their highest priority is finding a decent programmer and helping them recode whole game.

Doing foreign language version also means we have to make some changes on UI and so on. Because we need far more space for alphabet.
I do agree with your comment. It will be extremely hard to translate some Chinese into English, while translating back could be probably easier. I assume even if they translate some words, especially those "chenyu" you mentioned about, they still have to provide a wiki page, which explains all those traditional Chinese words.

If you are Chinese, you will experience different stories in this game.(such as: you looks the characters in the game charm value) is lower than your girlfriend, that she unless very sincerely, love you very much, or she is likely to fall in love with another person, and you don't even know normally under the child, then you can choose to find the killer to kill that man seduce your girlfriend, or choose silently bear.At the same time, your girlfriend will be in a low mood, will not have any friendly interaction with you, or even commit suicide by taking poison.Sometimes she may admire a lot of people at the same time, but she doesn't love you.Very sad.Your mood will also go down, and when the mood drops to a minimum, you may become an underling of the devil, so that when the game is over here, you need to re-select a body to continue the game, and the character you originally created will become your enemy.
This is a relatively easy to understand story in this game. As the game grows longer, you may even find that the NPCS of the entire game have things they like, people they like, and people who are not in a good relationship, and fights, assassinations, and poisons may occur. The person you admire, she or he may go back and steal something you desperately need to give because he loves you and doesn't even ask for anything in return.
I'm telling you this because this game has made me live again. To learn, to live, to be human.Marry and have children.Worry about your kids.Worry about your wife's fidelity. And this story, I went through eight times.I remember every single one of them.Everyone in the game, even if he's dead, I know everything they do.I can even tell if my wife's dad molested me, because his wife died, and he had only one person to rely on, my wife. His mind was becoming abnormal. He was no longer a man.I killed him.His wife's mood went down a lot.I made a lot of delicious food to keep her from being too sad. It's all like reality.Very real.
Machine translation, for you to experience this unique game, is not yet complete version, there is no English.I'm not doing this to show off. It's about telling you how good the game is.Special.

hahaha, "he was blessed by the god tier cricket", the lead surely love the cricket very much! The team members all claimed the part about cricket game is the most completed part of the game. Cricket fighting game is also a popular game in ancient China. It may have a history more than 500 years.
You really have a good understanding in Chinese. It's also difficult for us to understand some meanings behind the words in books like The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter series, some poems with ancient english words which is definitely not popularly used today, and some Initialism which really difficult to guess the components. And in translation a lot of informations about the words ifself also will disappear. For example the mirror called "Erised". You english readers can easily find out the word is the backword form of "desire". But we chinese version readers have to get help form the explanation of the translator.
So hope you will meet a nice translator.

To be honest, the scoll of Taiwu is really hard to be translated into other languages. Some contents referred much settings about Buddhism or Taoism, you know, something hard to explain ( the truth is ...most of us, chinese players, just know little about it), which lead the translation work a diffculty. And this game is still in EA mode, it could be a long time to wait for other languages.:bbtcat:
[ I tried translate some text with my friends, but failed :hatty:]

emmm...I have played this game for some time, if you don't mind, maybe I can help you? :bbtraccoon:

Funny thing about some of the concepts being hard, when it comes to it being Buddhism or Daoism, it's simply cause a lot of Western audiences can't understand those concepts in general. Or don't want to. I've found many parallels between Wicca, which I am a follower of, and both Buddhism and Taoism. But people don't understand what they don't WANT to at times lol.

This game
Contains many
Chinese unique vocabulary

Every word in Chinese has many meanings.

Explain Wicca, especially how it compares to Mahayana Buddhism, to us :D

Well things like reincarnation/rebirth, belief in many deities, the search for purpose. We believe that we are all here for one overriding purpose. And that every lifetime leads to/informs us on that purpose. And while we're here in ALL of them it is our duty to do what we can to help other people and the world, and do no ill to anyone.

For instance (as an example), say I was meant to cure a disease. But in my first lifetime I didn't have the knowledge to do so. Well maybe in my first life I was one of the people who built the hospital that employed the doctor who wrote a treatise on the treatment of a different form of that disease. Then maybe in the next life I somehow befriended a med student who needed help studying for exams, and who then was able to write their thesis on the same. Bit convoluted and sometimes downright confusing, but it all adds together.

You don't need to score anything on IELTS / TOEFL / TEM 4/6/8 to express your thoughts on the internet.

I'll be honest, this game is making me interested in Chinese culture. That probably sounds strange, but it's true. Like I said before, I'll gladly pay into a kickstarter or gofundme to help this game. Even though it's just a game, the more people are interested in other cultures, the better the world is. People are less likely to be afraid of (or want to fight) with people who seem familiar to them. Entertainment, media, video games, songs, etc can be cross-cultural and teach people not to be afraid of differences.
