So there was no button prompt to calibrate your controllers upon button presses? Weird. Typically Xbox One controllers are usually working for most steam titles. I would suggest to check your USB ports and drivers to see if they are broken and might need a replacement driver to update the firmware on your controller.

I don't think it's actually the games fault but rather a faulty USB port on either the PC or the controller.

mess around with steam input, most controllers you can get working with basically anything via steam input

Open big picture and change the kontroler setting in this game on the 4 or 3 setting and your controller will work i had the same problem fixed it on like 10 min :D if you need help add me and i will help you
