Any other 'vania inspired games like this on Steam?
Hey all. First, full disclaimer: Castlevania is my all-time favorite series, so I was IN on Bloodstained when IGA left Konami and teased it a year before the Kickstarter campaign. I even dug it so much I consider it one of my favorite platformers on PC (https://www.gamersdecide.com/articles/best-steam-platformers if y'all care about a plug, there it is :p).

So, I was quite surprised to see that Curse of the Moon was so directly inspired by Classicvania, and particularly, Dracula's Curse, one of my favorite games in the series. It made me realize very few games attempted to emulate the older games, and especially that game. Would anyone know of similar games to Curse of the Moon? I'm familiar of Castlevania fangames like The Lecarde Chronicles and Soul of Dracula, and the upcoming Brave Earth Prologue, but that's about it. There HAS to be more than just this.

These games are a bit like the old Shinobi / Ninja Gaiden, right? Then The Messenger I think is kind of similar. Jump and Slash.

None of these sugestions are classicvanias inspired. Except Odallus

It isn't exactly like classicvanias, since it has some exploration (something like Megaman X series) but after Curse of the Moon, Odallus is the most classicvania-like on Steam.

It is an awesome game too by the way.

Well the game have it's flaws and it's not very popular in some ways. When it comes to finding good vanias it's a bit about luck when it come to popularity.

It's not on Steam, but Curse of Issyos is a great game by locomalito, the maker of Cursed Castilla. There are some differences from the older Castelvanias (you have full control of the character in mid-air after jumping and there are stages where you can buy arrows for your bow, and food to restore some hp) but it's definitely not a metroidvania. Did I mention it's free?

Hollow Knight is the closest I've found to something that FEELS like a SOTN+ Castlevania. There's a lot that take the formula but don't really FEEL like a Castlevania game.

I mean even Odallus isn't classic Castlevania inspired its just oldschool Platformer inspired. Same with Volgarr. Maldita Castilla is Ghouls and Ghosts inspired. Kinda sucks that all the Platformers we get are Metroidvanias but somethings better than nothing. Since its not in the thread Slain is another oldschool Platformer:

If you want more Bloodstained, here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1257360/Bloodstained_Curse_of_the_Moon_2/
And here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/692850/Bloodstained_Ritual_of_the_Night/

Can't go wrong with this if you like old Castlevania games: **

** (has Castlevania + Castlevania II Simon's Quest + Castlevania III Dracula's Curse + Super Castlevania IV + Castlevania The Adventure + Castlevania II Belmont's Revenge + Castlevania Bloodlines + Kid Dracula.) **

A nice Metroidvania, some parts of the map look like they would'nt be out of place in Castlevania: (such as Karst City, the Cathedral, etc...) ↴

Both of these 2 below seem to be inspired by Castlevania ↴

(The art/cover of this one even looks like the cover of Aria of Sorrow, the gameplay seems a bit like Symphony of the Night)

The Mummy: Demastered. Character levels up as you progress with SOTN style save rooms.
