I'm confused. Which ending is the true ending? (Which sets off the plot for Ritual of the Night) If there is...

The initial idea (and thus, the description on kickstarter) was for this retro side-game to be a prequel to the story of Ritual of the Night; however, at some point later in time they changed their mind and the game became a self-contained spin-off completely unrelated story-wise with the main product. Except of course for using the likness of the characters to appear in the main game.
So in terms of continuity with Ritual of the Night, there is no canon ending, as the games aren't connected by it.

This game is about Zangetsu's dream because he got cursed, He see many future, when he didn't kill any people and hadn't make any teammate, finally he understand he is not strong, if he keep stubbornly, he or other character will be die in future.
This story make Zangetsu changed his mind, after that, RotN begin.

I suggest the Nightmare mode ending is the true one, though. Because Zangetsu somehow survives, but in another dimension. And instead of "End", it says: "The End?"

And that's why I think Nightmare's End (for ignoring them all) is the actual ending because that one says "Fin", plus the other reason with the ending itself that I won't spoil.

This. It's the only ending that ends with a question mark, hinting at something that comes after.

It's an episodic series so every game can have multiple endings and, in the end, any of them can probably be canon. A lot of folks now who have only gotten used to the singular-timeline style of storytelling can't seem to fathom how this works.

But its not "Mega Man" world. Although the way its framed is like MegaMan 2, the building is straight out of Azure Striker Gunvolt.

So if that ending ever lead to anything, it would be a Gunvolt crossover (but its probably just a joke ending)
