Players Co-Op problems

I was trying to play with my friend (Both own the game) but when I choose 2 players option and I choose my controller, the game says: No more controllers available.
How can I solve this and play with my friend?

I forgot to say that we were trying to use Remote play together. I play on a laptop so I use my keybord and mouse but
he can't choose a controller

You can’t both play on keyboard – at least one player has to be using a controller.
