Grey Screen - not working with HP Reverb G2 + Index Controllers
it is completely unusable for me since months now. I start it up with no controller connected - normal image. As soon as I start up the controller, I only see grey. I cant even open the steamvr menu, everything is blocked by that grey screen. Needless to say that it is only happening in this very player. No other game, no other player, nothing. I dont know why there even is a need for that grey screen.

As a possible fix: It seems like the app is loading something else than the steamvr chaperone or center position. Maybe even the one from Windows Mixed Reality. I can't tell. But it should just use the steamvr one like every other app or game out there. Because of that grey screen, I can't even manually recenter, since it is blocking the steamvr menu.

Have no idea what that could be or what you refer to, but try these to see if they solve it:
fix your pc disk errors first,
in steamvr settings, turn off home background.
Enter deovr player on your PC desktop icon not in vr desktop, make sure your windows mixed reality for steam app still exists, you might need to reinstall that.
SOMETIMES the player is on the side or rear not center, so you have to turn around and look for the player to recenter it. Don't rely on your vr headset deasktop to enter steam vr settings, take off the headset and use your pc mouse.
Thank you for your help, though I was able to fix it by buying stop sign vr, as they have a fix for that grey screen issue. It seems to be related to the "seated" apps group only, and you could probably fix it without the app, but it saved me so much troubleshooting time that I happily bought it.

I have same problem

When I start the video - a gray screen on the helmet But everything works fine on the computer

I suspect it is WMR, Just literally 2 months ago everything worked fine
Can you tell how you fixed it?

I launch from my steam library it's more stable, but still on original open it can be buggy and sometimes I have to shut down the player and restart for whatever it was conflicting to clear.
If launching from library doesn't work then turn off hardware acceleration in
codec tweek tools -direct show filter- lav video decoder

The problem is that it starts up on the computer and is transmitting sound to the device

But the picture remains in the form of a gray screen, and you can get out of it only by closing the application on the computer itself.
As if after the patch at some point the device stopped detecting the active window

Launching from library or desktop doesn't change anything

FIRST: make sure you are keeping your monitor- computer screen powered on and also it's not on screen saver. When I first used the headset I did not know the monitor needed to be on because nobody tells you this, but figured it out once I powered off and it synced with the headset off.
If you always keep it on then:
Check any error messages on your mixed reality portal window, it should show the home space or waiting animation (circling balls) otherwise it will tell you an error message.
other possibilities:
I had a similar glitch with my g2 recently, but when I tried my other controller the glitch did not exist.
Maybe just maybe the secondary (or main)controller is being affected by the update or needs to be re-established/sync.
If that doesn't work then try checking the wire didn't come slightly out and is fully connected to your headset and untangled and switch usb ports to your input in the computer.
Make sure you have Windows mixed reality for steam vr loaded in your steam library, either your windows mixed reality portal home or that steamvr Mixed reality home should be showing,
Another possibility: Sometimes with the player the loading is in the rear or side and not in the front, always load the player with your headset pointing in front centered, you might see gray or black in front but look 360 and see if you just need recentering of the player.

The monitor literally does not in any way affect the operation of the VR helmet
Literally has no effect
for any discrepancy between the USB ports or errors in the application, the helmet would not work, and not a specific application

I tried another video viewer app and it show Grey Screen to

Apparently WMR is in conflict with SteamVR
I will try today "stop vr sign" I guess WMR requires launching through an additional launcher without recognizing the video application as active

You are right, it doesn't turn off with the monitor anymore, probably because I turned off desktop mirroring or something or they fixed it a while back without me realizing.
Are you missing your open xr app in microsoft app store?
*update
Just thought of something, could it be your boundries need to be reset, perhaps your gray screen is you being out of set boundries?

Just FYI: I purchased Stop Sign VR, in the menu there is a setting that fixes the grey screen error.

Yep
me too

I dont now why, but the gray screen passed after install Stop Sign VR
Possibly there is a conflict between the sticks and the helmet. mb Video Player cannot determine where the user is due to the not particularly common relationship between them
