# not working on azerty ?
Playing on an azerty keyboard, I can execute over 90% of the commands through the default bindings, but the remaining 10% is either awkwardly located on azerty, or not possible at all at first sight (e.g. "ride").

Would have been no problem at all if I could use the command prompt # (ALT+3) but this doesn't work on azerty. Logical explaination seems that ALT / ALT GR don't work correctly on azerty? This would also explain the "ride" problem...

Anyne else having this issue on azerty / have a solution to get the command prompt?
Without autocomplete ofcourse, otherwise I'll still have the same problem...

Not being able to access the extended command prompt (# command) sounds like a bug. There may be some issues handling Alt/Alt GR properly.

The escape menu has access to some commands like "ride", but no way to call up the prompt.

Could you give some examples of the "awkwardly located" keys on AZERTY? Are you expecting them to be handled as if you were using a QWERTY layout?

Tbh the awkwardly located keys aren't really a problem as this is probably inherent to the azerty layout. So I'm really nitpicking here but for a lot of common commands we have to press shift first ; travel to (_) is shift + - on azerty, stair (>) is shift + <, (.) is shift + ; and a few more. I'm used to it by now but it's a shame we have to press double keys a lot... I understand there is no solution for this so this is not the issue.

A slightly bigger problem is not having some commands at all ; ride, annotate level and maybe tip over are the only ones I really miss (= all combinations with alt AND shift or ctrl).

Being able to get to the command prompt with 1 key without autocomplete on would solve everything though... If you could give # an alternative key that's free on azerty that would be nice?
I see we can also use k to kick again and l to loot etc so I really have no other issues.

Cheers and o yeah Nethack is ment to be played in ASCII and it's nice to finally have it on fullscreen so thx

What operating system are you on, and what version of AZERTY layout are you using (French, Belgian, etc.)

Also, you can tweak the mappings if some keys are inconvenient to access on your layout. For example, if you want to make the extended command available on the double quote key and ride on the single quote key, you can put the following in your nethackrc. There is no in-game option to create these bindings currently.

BINDINGS=":# BINDINGS=':ride

The manual has more information on how to setup these bindings. That said, there seems to be a bug with AZERTY layouts that needs to be addressed.

I'm on Windows 10 (64) with Belgian Azerty (dot).

You're absolutely right, I will eventually rebind some keys, still thinking on the placement though.

Good luck with the bug, getting alt # to work would already solve a lot.
