The game awards are a joke
They didn't put The Talos Principle 2 in any category, what a joke they are lol.
It should be there and with multiple nominations.

I notice when you gave me an award you didn't answer the question. What category do you think this game deserves an award?

As a puzzle game its a sidegrade from the original slightly more puzzles with great new mechanics but never really reaching a satisfying difficulty balance if it takes me longer to walk to a puzzle than it does to solve it there is an issue. Puzzle games seem to enjoy meta puzzles like the first game and games like the witness frequently they can seem sloppy if they aren't well planned and executed and given meaning that feels revelatory or earnt. In this game they are heavily signposted require dubious parkour, or are disappointing obvious and mundane.

As a walking simulator this game frequently makes use or brutalist architecture a school of design that is appreciated only by those that never have to live or work in the monstrosities it shat out into the world. A few areas look quite nice like the beach level but most are just ugly and overly large, or are like the western levels littered with trees that tanked the performance on my machine and caused several crashes. At this point for me personally launch day cyberpunk 2077 was more stable and had a better framerate. If you want games that do this far better look to journey, chants of sandaar or what remains of edith finch, I am not sure if any of them won games show awards or golden joysticks.

You initial post was flippant and dismissive, I returned that energy to you and the best you can muster is flailing about in your own excrement like my graphics card taking the tram ride from west 3 to west 1.

I thought the environments were incredible looking. They might not all be beautiful but the scope and detail of their design was really impressive to me. The anthropic hills were absolutely awesome.

I wonder if you've been living under a rock for the past 10 years...
It is a popularity contest and nothing else. We had TLOU2 win GOTY 2020 so it really makes me wonder how you could ever take them seriously in the first place... smh

TGA have a category "For a thought-provoking game with a pro-social meaning or message" and there is even a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Goodbye Volcano High in it but no the TTP2, what a clown world it is

Any of you remember Stray winning Best Debut Indie, even when up against Tunic? Nuff said.

To actually answer OP’s question it is kinda strange how this game wasn’t even nominated. But then again, they don’t even have a “best puzzle game” category, so it’s probably just not a “gamers game”.

So far i’d say it wins game of the year for me at least. But I haven’t finished all of the puzzles yet.

Its worse than the first game what award do you think it should win? Most breath taking crash to desktop? Choppiest framerate when you look at a tree? Most realistic depiction of a terrible office slack call?

Your PC is probably close to the minimum requirements. I've seen some guys saying that PCs compatible with the minimum requirements aren't offering a really playable experience, so maybe the guys at Croteam should have been less optimistic about that.

In any case, modern gaming is heading down a path that is rather disappointing. Now it's all about photorealistic lighting, something that is totally impossible to do in real time, so we have to rely on solutions that make the games blurry. I played Talos Principle 2 at 50fps on an i9 10900/RTX 3070, with most things on "high", but even if I lock on 30fps to get the best graphic quality, the image is still quite unpleasant. Everything is blurry, things leave traces when the camera moves, you notice artifacts, lights leaking, reflections disappearing, and a lot of things that break the immersion.

Of course, the end result is much more complex and photorealistic... but the price to pay is too big. Honestly, I think we're still about 10 years away from having the hardware to make all this fancy stuff really viable without such big trade offs.

Wrong. It's a bribery contest.

Not to state the obvious but these kinds of award shows has nothing to do with celebrating good product... but is rather mostly about selling product. They will focus on current trends and politics to cater to the masses while also getting paid under the table to make sure certain games make it on a list.

And as always, it's all subjective. For example, I think Hogwarts Legacy had the best music but we all know that franchise has a very small but loud minority that will keep it from having any chance at being elevated.

talos 2 not being nominated is completely fine. no need to go full on rants about some silly thing.
Royal Fool 16 listopada 2023 o 18:16
The Talos Principle 2 will not be eligible for next year's TGAs unless they have some callback category. The cutoff this year is November 17th.

There simply weren't enough nominations from people that cover video games, because... like mentioned above, it is ultimately a popularity contest - this is the nature of all awards shows. This year was stacked with huge games, which is unfortunate for Croteam and Devolver.
koosa_ 17 listopada 2023 o 3:32
No nominations for Amnesia The Bunker too. One of the best puzzle games of all time and one of the most terrifying horrors skipped just like that, those awards are a joke, as others said, it's a popularity contest

Much as I like the concept of game awards, 99% of them are just popularity contests. If your game isn't a AAA or a viral indie game then you got no hope of even being nominated.
