The puzzle music gets really monotonous.
There's one loop so far, and it has some really distinguishable features that get distracting to hear and anticipate so many times.

I agree! I hope they implement something or other, playlist or just some modifications, or anything. That "puzzle track" should only kick in once a person actually enters a puzzle, there's no reason to swap music to a puzzle solving track every time I get within 5-10 feet of a puzzle from just exploring or running by.

Definitely some rough edges to smooth over in patches, for example the spoiler bit I mentioned the alternate tracks briefly freeze the game every time it swaps between them, something like that should just have been precached or outright kept entirely in RAM, I certainly have plenty of it so there's no justification for not doing so.

I mean, as I understand it the demo alone has nearly 90mins of music in it (music, not just audio) and the main game has over three and a half hours, so it's not like the game lacks music, it's probably just you noticing certain melodies, and perhaps the game logic doing a less than perfect job of switching between them.

Exactly what I was saying! There is indeed a great amount of music in the game... and there's music I hear once and never again. So I am sure there is a larger selection of puzzle music, but for some reason it's being frequently overridden.

I am not kidding when I say even going NEAR a puzzle instantly changes the music track, from whatever was beautifully playing to (most of the time) back to the same tired puzzle track. I love all the music in the game (the sprite chase track is a little annoying, granted), but it's just not being shuffled right. Absolutely loving the endgame puzzle dichotomy & matched dichotomy in music tracks, though!

Weird, I haven't noticed the music change when going into a puzzle. I made a point to pay attention to this after reading your post and I wonder if you're experiencing a glitch or something.

I've had it happen a few times while moving towards the edge of the map. Not when entering puzzles though.

I think there are multiple "triggers" that tend to cause a track switch, usually when you approach, or solve different types of puzzles and they tend to impede the conclusion of one with another. If you just go from #1 to #2, I never noticed a break as opposed to say #3 to an undiscovered puzzle. Though if you sit on a puzzle long enough they usually start to loop to the general area music and repeat every ~10-12m. I think the music does hit the atmosphere and sophistication that match the upgrade in the world compared to the first game, with small nuances that connect the two games together.
Grasslands Ring feels like it's always playing, only being interrupted by completing puzzles.
Having just finished the game, I can say that the worst part is that there are some seriously awe-inspiring tracks in this game, but... they constantly get cut off by generic looping ambient.

Also, whoever though it would be a good idea to use the spark chasing music for that scene (if you know, you know)... way to ruin the mood. What were they thinking, seriously?

I mean, it is quite literally Prometheus who has been saying GO ON, GO ON DO IT DO IT with repsects to the knowledge, so it's entirely apt. Also it fitted pretty well with the trippy visuals and gave it a sort of upbeat feel.

Honestly, I quite liked it.

Maybe they should have not used it for the sprite... I get what he means, I was also immediately reminded of that silly minigame because of it, while the cinematic is supposed to be profound.

By the Founder, as expected, north of the Megastructure has new music, and it's really good. I hope it doesn't also wear out its welcome.
I'm still waiting for a game that will allow the consumer to have the option to drop tracks of their own into the games audio setup via the main menu UI. The files can be separated by "Action" "Exploration" "Flying" etc. and/or different maps having different chosen music.
I think this is a fair complaint. I noticed special music while I was working on puzzles, which was cool, but whenever I would be stuck on a puzzle it would go back to the same loop of landscape music. I found this pretty annoying in the Western world, where it got old fast during those tougher puzzles

Yeah many games have the same problem. The continuous looping ambient music during regular game play gets repetitive. You can switch the music off, but then you miss out on the cool music when it changes up when an important game event happens. There should be an option to adjust the volume of the ambient game music only.

Still really enjoyed the music in retrospect on the soundtrack
I never got a hang on what the music was trying to do. It seemed to be locational, so that when I moved from one place to another it changed - but sometimes it wasn't, sometimes it was tied to puzzle completion or revealing a hidden memory.

I think they missed a trick, in that certain tracks sounded like recurrent themes - "Evolve" stood out, and so did the late-period Pink Floyd track - but they just seemed to be part of a big soup of tracks that were played almost at random.
Although i like the music, i feel annoyed after hearing it too many times - as with every other music piece. The easiest thing would be to make a swtich option in the sound settings, which turns of the puzzle loops in general; only the music for specific events is playing.
