I take it you never played the first game? It's exactly the same and your own fault for assuming this game would let you reverse it. That's not ♥♥♥♥♥♥ design at all, it warned you plenty and doesn't have to conform to preconceived notions you have about difficulty. Tons of games have ways to permanently increase the difficulty that can't be undone.
That said, whoever said "dur hard mode means you don't get to change difficulty ever" is stupid af. None of these rules are set in stone.
Which now has me kinda confused if I triggered hard mode or not, but I'll refrain from reading the tablet again just in case. :p
Monsters deal more damage, have more HP and there are more of them in the levels, as far as I know. I think it doesn't affect patterns and such.
Annwfn is like the 2nd or 3rd area of the game, depending how you play it. It's an option. Another is to just restard, since you're very close to the beginning of the game.
As for the OP: You had more than plenty of warnings from all in-game outlets and one outside the game. The only game i can think of where warnings such as this don't mean anything at all would be Fallen London, but that's about it.
See, read this back and think really hard about if what you said makes any sense.
It's his fault for not playing the first game? it's his own fault for thinking "those who do not head these warning will sudder pain of DEATH" mean this will change the difficulty to hard mode.
And these tons of game give you the option to choose the difficulty in the beggining of the game, not in the midle of your first dungeon.
