The Great Costumening

Based on the info I've been given, assuming the oddly colored chests are costume chests, I've found like 3 or 4 of them, and opened one by accident, in that I had no idea what it was so there goes the backer key on something I really, really don't care for. But such is life.

On the internet you can find a smattering of locations, the Valkyrie, Pink Kimono, and Eastern European outfit, and if I can come up with a 2nd costume key, I think I found one in the Gate of the Dead, but the internet seems pretty puzzled on where most of the others are (which is irksome to me as the one I particular desire has yet to be found, not that I could open it if I wanted to now e_e) and I haven't seen any locations or w/e for costume keys either.

On a personal level on somewhat concerned I may end up clearing the game before getting the costume I helped vote into the game, but more generally I imagine... Most everyone would like to know where one can find keys and costumes. Has anyone started compiling such already? And if not, what secrets lay in your back pockets?

You get one costume key from the key fairy, I think. Don't remember the exact trigger for it but it was around there. As for the costumes themselves, those 3 are the ones that the vast majority have come across. Haven't seen any others mentioned yet.

There should be 4 chests for 4 costumes, as in you can also have 4 keys, but I was a backer that started with all 4 keys and have no idea where they're obtained normally

The one you found in Gate of the Dead is for the Baphomet costume. My personal favorite.

I don't know how, but I managed to open another chest. Maybe something with achievement unlocked ? There are fairies for achievement. 4 fairies, 4 achievements that depict fairy. Maybe it's the clue ? Every time you unlock on achievement with a fairy, you get a key ?

Here are the locations of the garb chests I've found. Haven't found any keys yet, so don't know what each holds.

Ice Fire Treetop - two rooms to the right of the entrance from Roots
Cavern - one room to the the right of the entrance from Immortal Battlefield
Gate of the Dead - one room to the right of the entrance gate from Immortal Battlefield
Ancient Chaos - in same room as entrance gate from Corridor of Blood

I've managed to fulfil the currently-unknown conditions for 3 of the costumes, all of them except the Valkyrie.

Fortunately as the costumes remain permanently unlocked for all files once you obtain them, I'm able to stay in my sweet Baphomet cosplay for the entirety of my hard mode run. At least, as long as I don't need to wear my hazard suit instead.

Hmm, they actually might be tied to the fairy achievements.

For backers with 2 keys, the first two keys would correspond to collecting all items and collecting all apps. That leaves the other 2 keys for unlocking all key fairy spots (which I've done and would explain why I got a key around that time) and then collecting all encyclopedia entries.

Wait. Does the color of the chest suit with the color of the fairy ?

Red, yellow, blue, and then I presume the GOTD chest is green. Yes, they would match up.

Also, I am guessing the final costume spot is for the swimsuit. No idea when they'll add in Hell Temple but it makes sense for that last spot to be the swimsuit.

No, it's more of a pink than green. I also apparently already got the Kimono and still had one key left over? Might get one from rescuing the Fairy Queen as well then. That leaves the swimsuit as just being a chest which requires a key then? That seems harsh to have the presumed Hell Temple reward require a key to get.

Also I noticed on the title screen if you've obtained one of the keys to open a costume chest but have yet to claim the costume, a little key icon appears on the bottom-right.

I have the Valkyrie outfit, from the Cave chest. I have no idea how I opened it though. It was relatively early in the game though.
