What is the "W" Symbol on Galleon HUD
I've been playing for almost 200 hours in single player mode. I vowed never to use the cheats, but when I lost a fully provisioned Galleon complete with beds, crew, large cannons, food stores, smithy etc. just because I parked too close to an island in a lawless zone and died on that Island, I threw my hands up and cheated to rebuild the Galleon. Before I ask my question - there really needs to be a better way to warn people about where you should not park if you don't want to lose a vessel because you cannot re-spawn in that bed.
The Galleon is almost completely back to where I had it but I noticed in the HUD that shows the image of the Galleon and the sails there is what looks like a "W" with a red strike-through near the top right of the Galleon's image. Can anyone explain what that represents?

That "W" is an indication that your ship is ignoring the wind speed and direction. While it's there you can sail without crew, controlling the sails from the help, the same way you would if you had crew on the sails. the biggest difference is that it doesn't matter which way the sails are turned, you get the full effect from them as though they were turned to the optimal direction to catch the wind. I'm not sure if that goes away with time or if it permanent. Either way, if you have cheats enabled, you can get rid of the effect (and the "W") by pressing the tilde key and typing ' setignorewind 0 ', without the quotes.

It's a spawned ship so it isn't influenced by the wind if I remember right

I forgot how or when it goes away though

First, all of single player is lawless, so that's not an issue. Second, the issue isn't where you parked the Galleon, it's a bug with the game not properly tracking the ship location; any ship is susceptible. So, if you're going to explore an island, you should always put down a bed on land. Even without that though, you can still respawn at a random location on the island and be fine. The issue is that if the game doesn't think your ship is in the same grid that you're actually in and you try to respawn on the ship, well, it loses its mind.

As to the other, I can't picture what you're describing, maybe post a screen shot.

How do you select to spawn on that island? I only ever see beds and home region available. (Sp)

Hm, I figured home region meant a free port but perhaps it means current zone? Think I respawned in a few port zone anyway...
