Which ship is faster?

Brig with 3 speed sails

or

Brig with 1 speed sail and 2 weight sails


Basically just wondering if speed sails stack or if all you need is one. Thanks!

Good question. Never seen a weight sail i think. How all the sails work for the various ships are good questions and have not seen any for sure answers.

Our First Brig got 2 large Speed and ohne large weight, and it was amazingly Slow, removed the weight and added another weight and it was as fast as a Full Speed schooner Even with Heavy weight. As you can Skill weight but Not Speed i think a Full Speed Setup is the best.

Well I managed to get an answer from the Atlas Discord, and it looks like they do indeed stack.

Ok that makes sense but is one medium better than 2 small for example.

From what i tested, yes! At least one big is way better than two medium. Build a Schooner with a big and a small speedsail on it, you win every race :P

Exactly. Then add in the 3 different kinds of sails and ship sizes and weight and its alot of guess work. Official guide is needed very badly.

i just testet id, i get rid of my large speed on my schooner and replaced the 2.7 large with 3 additional small speed, now i got 4 small speed with 4.0 sailpower and it looks like its a bit faster, but need to test it with a friend with a schooner with one large speed and a small speed next to me for a little race to the next island. then we will see if more sail power = more or less speed

i can only agree, we did the same thing. And if your lucky, that the wind is behind you and Strong. You'll be at your destination in no time ;-)

This may be true, now calculate 4 addional crew to man sails. If you intend on manning the sails yourself, well that just may be a playstyle you're happy with, but for myself I see the 1 Lg Speed + 1 Sml works considerably better. Another thing to note is if you do happen to get into a PvP spat those small sails snap almost instantly with the correct ammo type. Esp, if getting hit with multiple cannons. If speed is your only concern, don't forget to factor crew for manning those additional 3 sails.

i find it funny you guys read the name "weight"sail and think it will have anything to do with speed.

if you want speed you get 3 large "speed" sails, pretty simple.

if you don't mind not going optimal speed because you plant o carry insane amounts of things.. you use the weight sail.

My brig gets +200weight on every point I put into it, so 5 lvls for 1k weight.
1 weight sail ADDS 1k weight. the trade off is loss of speed.
in theory i can put 3 weight sails and gain 3k of weight or (15lvls of weight) at the cost of speed.

the question is ...what do you need your brig for?

I remember a guy who used quetzals in ark with no speed boost just weight and he enjoyed carrying insane amounts of mats at turtle speed, never needing to land or put a point into stamina.

Not for me, but works for some.

Sloop one medium speed sail. Schooner one Large and small speed sail
i really like schooner its fast and i can manage it alone easy ;)
i installed steering wheel between sails so i can use both sail fast^^
