Whats the advantage of leather over plate?

cold/heat bonus over plate.

Do you run slower in plate? Haven't worn any in a while, since playing mostly in tundra, but I seem to recall that you do.

With shield there are some movement changes. Just learning the shield and sword and plate armor now.

You are faster without plate armor (there is a skill that reduce the penalty in armory), not sure the difference between plate and hide but guess it is worse in plate.

Hide is sort of between plate and fur in insulation but weight much less than fur (2.5 vs 48 weight), so can be useful to keep warmer than plate without taking up too much of your weight while farming or riding a low weight pet.

I have yet to try the mace but liking the spear more than the sword for combat at the moment.

Will being able to use more than 2 pistols quickly ever be added?

The fine details of balance are always tough to get right but very important. Especially as more items get added.
