Why does this game have mostly negative reviews?
Why should anyone buy this game?

Any improvement or it better to buy another title?

No improvement. Four months ago, they had said we'd be getting the blackwoods map soon and it's coming out either today or tomorrow. That's a pretty big gap for something that's coming out soon don't you think? They also added dinosaurs and ripped a holiday event from ARK before working on the pirate theme of the game (Which was the biggest selling point)

because its early access and everyone that plays it expects to play a finished quality product.

No, people that get it don't expect its focus to change from being a pirate themed survival game to ARK WITH ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ BOATS.

The game is in a pretty ropey, early state of development. It's often buggy, has balance issues, content can be a bit anemic; especially in regards to actually playing and feeling like a pirate. The devs also have a history of sometimes taking th most baffling approach to solving balance and gameplay issues instead of obvious, sensible fixes. Hence, negative reviews.

However, contrary to what some have said there has been considerable progress across the board since launch; next patch we're getting NPCs to pirate, last update gave us single player/co-op so you can play with your friends outside of dedicated servers (Which are often a mess of griefers and gankers), performance has steadily improved over time and QoL features been added.

Furthermore it feels like a lot of players don't know how to actually play the game. They see the superficial similarities to ARK, try play it like ARK and then complain it's not ARK. When duh, it's not ARK, it has completely different (and far more substantial) game loops and progression pathways, and if you're just building a boat, a base then calling it a day you're missing the actually game loop.

That being said OP; this is still in a very clearly early access state, and if you don't want to deal with the bugs and anemic content issues that come with an EA title, you wouldn't be remiss to skip it for now. ATLAS, like ARK in it's early access days, is kind of a beautiful mess right now

So... basically this with one or two additions:
The game when first released, was ripped apart the night it came out. Horrible startup times, non-loading servers, god-wretched optimization. By the end of day 1, there was over a thousand negative reviews to the game due to such a horrible release. As time progressed, players learned there was no single player, no easy way to build a server, a 'shock' surprise to find the game was IDENTICAL IN UI AND GAMEPLAY to the game ARK (despite early access streaming of the game for a few days prior), and a lack of NPC variety for ship fighting. The game has gone up from 'Very Negative' to 'Mostly Negative' but those who already bought the game, reviewed it, and returned it have already damaged beyond repair such a review.

I have had this game from day 1, and can say this:
THIS GAME IS ROUGH. Yes, optimization has improved, YES the game is a 'reskin of Ark but with pirates,' Yes there is single-player... THIS GAME HAS IMPROVED! This game needs time to keep growing. Ark was not so good when it first started, but now is a rather fun survival game. My advice? Watch a few long streaming hours of the game, and decide then if you are willing to really get this game.

Because people bought an EA game then complained that there were bugs.

ATLAS - a massively multiplayer first-and-third-person fantasy adventure set in the golden age of pirates.

what part of that description has deviated into full blown ark?

Most of tje complaints were from launch but even today the cpntent is very thin. Not really worth 30 as is.

Personally, I just bought it and I think it's a great idea (despite the bugs which naturally comes with Early Access games). But I've been wrong before, look at what happened with World's Adrift for gods sake... Great idea ran into the ground. Buy it or don't, your choice. Just a forewarning though, single player is way buggy. I've lost 4 ships due to death crashes, so using admin commands is a must for now until it's fixed. Not sure if its as bad in Multiplayer.

This game isn't worth it for multiplayer in it's current state, hackers run wild in pvp, claim systems are still unfair(PVE), and they always will be IMO.

But for SinglePlayer/unofficial servers this game is 100% worth it if you are into grindy/sandboxy/survival games like Empyrion/Conan/Ark/Minecraft.

Actions speak louder than words. A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tortoise to use as a submersible isn't in line with that description and is more akin to what would be found in ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Ark...
