Placing Shipyard
As I understand it, I cannot place a shipyard in water that is too deep. Problem is the area I chose to build my base has very deep water starting at the shoreline and I don't really want to put the shipyard too far away from my base. I do have a very small beach that I probably could put one on but I wanted to keep that clear if I could. My question is, if I am able to build a dock in the deep water can I attach my shipyard to the dock?

Unless it's been changed since I last played (a couple months), shipyards don't snap to any structures. So the answer would be no, although I believe there is a mod to change that in the workshop.

if you ant place the shipyard facing outward try placing it sideways, by turning it 45°, you will need to angle it while you are in the water tho but if the water isnt too deep too soon it might just fit

Some shorelines are better suited than others as a harbor. You'll have to tinker a bit to get a feel for it.
