So my assumption that the devs don't know how to program their game rules correctly stands firmly. I took ownership of the structures via claim flag. The structures actually held onto the previous owners decay-timer regardless of it showing my company had ownership. The previous company members never came around or in proximity, so the structures were cleaned up by the server.
So if you claim something you would need to place a structure over every structure placed that was not built by your company.
Or if your base gets claimed, you just don't go there for a few weeks and it will auto-disappear on the new owners.
Is this by design? Or just sloppy devs?
If you claim something that wasn't built by you or your company, the decay timers do not get updated to your company's timers. They remain set for the original owner. This means if you claim something and the previous owner doesn't come within render distance for the duration of their decay timer (which you can't see looking at the structure) - it will be auto deleted by the server once the decay timer you can't see reaches zero.
Those who have claimed something that was not theirs and haven't had issues with this decay issue is because the previous owner/company is still coming within render distance of the structures which resets the decay timer.
I've seen many bases with claim flags still valid but the structures are gone with floating tames where a ceiling used to be. Always wondered why that was - now I know.
