Where is the metal?
How to get metal? I got 100 stones in total on the starting island and did not find a single piece of metal, I even sailed to a neighboring island, but it was also empty. Where and how to extract metal?

So as Ludoboy said, there are no Metals on Freeports, so get a ship asap and move to a neighbouring grid.

I don't know about multiplayer but in single player there is no limit to the levels you make in freeport grids. I have not left the freeport I started in yet and I am around lvl 34.
To M4nT!Core. The island you start in is a freeport island. The 4 in your grid are identical but facing different directions. There are a total of 4 freeport grids on the map. The freeports have a small town in them and about 5 vendors you can buy things with gold coins. You can also get a ramshackle sloop from the vendor on the end of the dock with a few resources. Get that ship and sail to a different grid and go to the closest island to get your metal there. Unfortunately you don't have any gold coins when you start so you cannot get any crew to help you sail the ship so your going to have to control the ship yourself (steering wheel and the two sails).
Hope you enjoy the game. I do :)

So there's no metal at freeports anymore and there is no longer a tiny dock. Which means you need to swim to the first place.

You don't swim anywhere there is a NPC "end of dock" selling 3 choices of which the Ramshackle Sloop is the best option.Once you sail to an island and get some metal and stuff you can build a premade starter boat "i forget what it is called offhand" but it is a pretty decent ship.I also can't remember th ename of the dock used to make this decent Schooner copy cat.Of course like always the LAZY work means this starter ship is a copy/ paste model of of another which if memory serves me a copy/paste of the Schooner but with a different looking deck.

To show how fast and LAZY this team does work the water animation at the front of the ship doesn't match but looks to be using a larger ship's animation...really sad ,unless of course they got around to fixing it..i doubt it.
