ATLAS

Are there any new maps available like the Blackwood map?
I took about a 9 month break from Atlas. Was tired of waiting for updates and fixes to the game, so played other games for a bit and planned to come back when Atlas was closer to leaving Early Access. I think it is still at least a year from that, just checking in.

One interesting development is the Blackwood map that was released about 4 months ago. Not sure how long it takes a modder to make a map. Maybe some are working on something similar? I don't see that anywhere. Maybe they are waiting for some of the game bugs to be fixed that affect a map like Blackwood (for instance, game crashes when a treasure map is opened). I tried playing the Blackwood map. It is fun, but the core game that goes with it could use some improvements still.

Or is everyone just waiting like I am for the game to be more polished? Very hard to tell the state of a steam game these days. There are the fan boys that only say positive stuff. There are some hard core haters (for every game). There are the rare honest and balanced opinions out there too. Mostly there is just a dearth of real information.

You can put together your own 1x1 grid with a mix of islands using the ServerGridEditor. I'm not sure if you can play singleplayer mode on it tho. You have to setup a dedicated server to host it. Maybe on the same machine like me. I just play Blackwood on it. But I did have a 1x1 working on it before that.

I've yet to play with the ServerGridEditor. Using it is the way to go if you host some servers that others can play on. Although it seems like it would take a lot of knowledge of what types of islands to pick to ensure you get every type of resource. I've yet to know how that works.

But for someone playing single player like me, using the ServerGridEditor seems overkill for a few reasons. Seems like you would spend a lot of time creating a 1x1 and a 1x1 is not really the best way to play Atlas. Also if you create your own map, then exploring it is not going to be all that interesting as you will already know what to expect.

I'd like to see more of the Blackwood type of maps, but just don't see any. I just don't like the 225 size version of single player. I am too used to ARK, where you search for at most an hour for a resource, but once you find it, it is just 15 minutes away to get more. This whole days looking for something and then being able to only take back a small amount in your ship and going there again will take you 4 hours or more to get another small amount, I just can't get into that.

For me the core vision of the game is dead on arrival, they want to build a mmo with pvpve but they build it like a basic survival... progression is realy slow and you can lose everything in a blink of a eye while you're offline it has never been fun and never will be, i played Albion online for a while and the way it work is far better imo they should take inspiration from it.

I looked at Albion online. Reminds me a bit of Wurm online. Tried that game a long time ago.

I don't play PvP anymore though. I am play Atlas only PvE (mostly single player, which is always PvE). It doesn't look like Albion online even has a PvE server from what I read.

You can't compare which games? Albion online and Atlas?

I created the thread to see if anyone had any information about maps similar to the Blackwood map, but I'm fine also discussing other games similar to Atlas but are currently playable and not in Early Access like Atlas is (where a lot of people are waiting to see if and when it will become something better than it is today).

Well pvp wise the game is realy bad and i don't think it will ever change and it will end up like ark, dead for the most part and only small community of greifer will still play this game for the pvp but as you want to play pve that doesn't matter for you.

Pve side of the game is still poorly balance and not realy fun, melee combat is bad and useless and firearms has been nerf to the ground to the point it is useless ( most of the monster are immune to it ) but if you like taming then it's okay as it is the only way to fight on the ground ( but for that you better play ark as it is better at this ) sailing and ship fight is well done for the most part i would say.

For the question of the map i like the vanilla style with the huge scale of it but i guess if the game get better the modding community and dev will build more 1x1 map for smaller private server.

Blackwood has too many faults and less content that "The island" i personally believe, so i'm waiting for the phases, content and fixes for blackwood and stuff

Work in Progress only about 17% complete.

I took a look at the steam page. Looking good so far :steamhappy:
