offline raid protection necessary
I built a ship yesterday and launched it. elaborate procedure. today it is sunk in the shipyard. it was simply destroyed without resistance. the game cannot be explored in this way. only 13 hours of fun. game over. I'm out

Absolutely agree. This is a game, not a job. How is anyone supposed to go to sleep when people with piracy skills can see into their storage and raid them when they are offline?

This makes the game unenjoyable for everyone. Even the raider isn't fighting another player, they are just overcoming any AI defenses while the player is comatose (offline) and stealing hard-earned resources.

I am done with this game.

You actually have plenty of options to avoid this sort of thing on the official PvP servers.

There are PvE servers, there is single player, there are private PvP servers with rules against this.

Seems you picked the one server with the type of game play you don't like and you blame the game for that?

There are a pve servers too. No need to worry about someone sinking your boats while you are offline. Pvp in this game is non-existant anyway, there is just offline griefing, so no reason to be on pvp servers.

In PVE have the devs resolved the situation whereby a player could overload your boat causing it to sink. I know this was a thing once.

No idea, I would never play on a server where those sort of people are allowed to play.

At one point they made it instant death if you got on someone else's ship. That was the solution, not sure if that is still how it works. I think this is an option that you can turn on or off. On one server I play on, they enabled going onto other players ships. On a private server, that is good to have, since it allows you to team up with other players and do some of the quests without having to all be in the same company.

Private servers seem to be the way to go, where known griefers can be banned and/or dealt with quickly.... unlike the unpoliced official PVP servers.

player vs player short pvp. offline raid protection is required

Be neat if they had a bottle you could store only 1 ship in while your offline, like the bottle the black pearl was inside in pirates carribean, ofc have some temporary debuff effects for using it when you respawn ship from bottle

Did you really just go "There's a ton of options to deal with this on official pvp"... Leading into "There are PvE servers"?

PvE servers are horrible as there are a thousand ways to grief other players on them while also COMPLETELY removing the main PvP aspect of the game.. Meaning: Since you can't attack people, you're even less able to stop them from ruining your stuff.

Nope. You can still sink any and all boats by just getting on them with a heavy inventory, PvE included. Tried this myself just two days ago.

+1

Simply put don't play on Official PvP if you can't play by the rules. Server is not going to changes it's core rules because you lost a boat overnight. If you are quitting after losing 1 boat then this game is definitely not for you. Good riddance.

I bet you can't name 10 things to do on pve that would be considered griefing. PVE official is great and I haven't had a griefer mess with me since the first month of launch. If you know what can be griefed you learn very quickly how to easily counter it. Comments like yours spread misinformation to new players and in my opinion do a diservice to these forums.

How is the guy not playing by the rules if he gets his things destroyed and looted when he is offline and cannot defend himself?

Attacking a players structures and ships and looting their items when they are offline is at best PVE at worst griefing and breaking the rules, it is in no way, shape or form PVP.
So if anyone is breaking the rules it's the people attacking a players base when they are not around to defend it.

Don't think there's any real need for offline protection.. if you can't handle it.. don't play pvp.
It's a funny thing, but you're more likely to find someones house or ship than you are to find someone.. so why shouldn't you be able to fight that instead.. ?

Could just reduce damage tools/weapons do during offline mode.. Or put raid protection in.. or make it an item.. that you build.

Imo.. The best raid protection is communication. And we can't do that without ingame translators. We can't even read what most of the other players are even saying.

Why bother with raid protection, if grapeshot won't even let us speak to each other?

Sometimes an emote.. just won't do. It might well be EA.. and maybe in 25 yrs Snail might make Atlas worth playing.. but I doubt it.

Best thing we can do.. is just no buy into anything grapeshot, wildcard, snail.. sell.

They don't even sell the game to their own people.. they get the game for free.

What if they have two accounts? Log in with one, check the base is ok.. if it's being attacked.. don't login with other.. Just let the offline protection stay up.. When the attackers leave or log.. log in.. and then go and stand outside their offline protected base.. kicking stones around the beach.

Offline protection sounds great on paper, but what we need is just a better design of the pvp.

Make the servers all pve.. until you undock in a ship.. allow war tokens to drop as loot.. you declare war on another company.. 24 hours later.. you can go ffa on their base.. wether they're on or not.

24 hours to flee... or fight.

Seems fair. Meanwhile they can play protected under pve flag.. on their own island. On lawless islands remove the pve aspect.. force people to recruit in freeports.. in fact, remove 75% of the freeports and lawless islands.. make them all settleable islands.

Cut number of golden islands in half along with 50% off the needed number of gems.. what a bore that is.. in pve or pvp.

The rules are: Lawless has no laws and claimed Islands have peace and war times. If your base gets raided that is apart of the game. If your boat gets sunk its because you didn't or couldn't defend it. If someone travels 4 grids to get to a random base because they are out raiding, they shouldn't have to turn around just because that person isn't logged in right then. If you don't like the Official PvP rules then don't play on Official PvP. Simple.
