I currently live in a zone that goes below -15 quite a bit and have 80 fortitude.. I only need one or two bits of fur the rest can be plate..
So if you are using a bow, even with the 30% damage bonus, you are near death by just taking out a single enemy. If there is more than one? you are ♥♥♥♥♥♥, if its an alpha? you are ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Heck, if you startle a horse, there is a good chance that an alpha horse will be nearby to come and 2-shot you.
I guess part of the problem is that "being cold" has a very narrow window, which is not too bad of a status effect since you wont take damage unless you are freezing. But most of the time it seems like you are either fine, or freezing to death because of how much the temperatures vary.
But as people in our group have also said: "I should not be freezing when I am standing right next to a fireplace indoors"
I mean, I have heard several people saying they need multiple fires early game just to stay alive at night. To me, that just sounds like bad game design and not fun, which is what any game should strive to be.
