2. Yes
3. Admin lock everything you can. Make sure your docked in your territory. Don’t leave anything on the ship that gives someone access to inventory (campfires, cooking pots, Smith’s, etc) if you can’t admin lock it it needs to be behind a locked door. Don’t leave it in the middle of the ocean. And last hope that a bunch of people don’t come along and pile on it.
4. Ships wear a bit but unless you sailed thru a storm or hit something there shouldn’t be that much damage.
5. If it’s not docked in your territory. It will decay rather quickly.
6. Have fun.
Yes you can remove sails and even the ceilings to replace them if you want a hatch or different/better sail config.
Basically you can't. You could keep the ladders up, but that won't stop griefers coming up on a raft for example and jumping from lockers onto your ship. Just pin code your lockers. Leave trap doors open and hope they're stupid enough to jump down.
All vessels take damage over time, you need to maintain them or they will sink. Just as armour, weapons and tools also wear out and need repaired.
You ship will decay faster in freeports and some other regions like lawless islands, than in normal regions. You need to keep a close eye on it and don't leave it parked overnight/offline for long periods or it just won't be there when you log in.
Keep a lookout for crocs.. they will attack you on your ship, no matter how big it is.
To anchor it you need to be over fairly shallow water or a hump in the ground that allows anchoring. Some islands have extremely steep sides.
If they think you might have something and there is enough of them they will sink it and salvage it.
