However even region locking servers doesn't stop many of them nowadays. Lots of Chinese gamers have VPN's to bypass the censoring their government has in place on certain sites. Those VPN's also allow them to play on NA servers.
As far as why they do it?
Likely they feel the experience is a bit better on NA servers where there's less hacking than the Chinese servers on many games. NA can't run servers in China, and for most games the server owners there in China don't go after hackers like the developers do here for many online games. Much more fun to be a hacker on a server where it's not rampant, so you get hackers migrating to other servers where they can terrorize people. You also have some legit Chinese players that just don't want to play on hacker infested servers.
