How to Get Alloy?
I can't seem to find any way to get alloys for cannons. Anyone know how?

You must unlock Metallurgy under the Construction skill tree, then build the forge, and then smelt metal ores along with coal (or charcoal) and salt. Depending on where you're at, the salt might be tricky to get, but you can always dig it up from sand... with a lot of digging.

We are trying that but it seems it either takes forever to smelt or it does not work like that. We have Metal | Coal | Salt | Wood only in the forge and it is not smelting for alloy

It isn't automatically smelted. You must have all the materials in the forge, also know the recipes for making the ingots (provided through Metallurgy), and then actively choose to craft those ingots while the fire is burning. If the fire is not burning, the recipes won't light up and you can't craft them.

Gotcha, So to make the ingots you need the specific metal such as Iron? You can't use just metal?

As far as I know, there is not an item simply called metal. They are always called Cobalt, copper, iron, silver, and a few others that I don't remember. if you look inside the forge, on the lower right-hand side, it will show the recipes, and their requirements. They do require specific metals to make specific ingots. However, every Ingot qualifies as an alloy Ingot. Alloy is the category under which all of the metal ingots fall under.

i don,t know if its a bug but i can confirm it exists.. it fact every single resource has a generic name in freeports on custom servers on default map (all wood is called "wood" and all metal is called "metal" etc.) if you look at the metal ores it does say it is copper but the generic "metal"
it gives, can not be used to make any alloys neither can the generic "sap" from bee hives be used as honny when taming bears

You can make any of the ingots with different recipes. In the crafting menu in the forge you can hover over each ingot to see what materials it requires to make. They all look different and require different materials to craft but the end produc is univeral in it's use.

The forge is also a little buggy so best to keep it manned when smelting other wise it can randomly stop the crafting queue

ALLOY = INGOT
It means the same thing in the game. It's just that simple.

I didn't realize I was still subbed to this nearly 2-year-old thread until it got necro'd, lol.

i dunno how it works in new versions ,but in old version u got ore/ingots called "metal" in free ports or when u demolished element wchich used any other metal,i can be wrong but i think this "metal" couldnt be used in alloys though,only named metals like iron copper etc could.
