Can't equip my pick axe

Ok ..never played this game before. Finally crafted a pick axe and the only thing it will let me do is drop it. What am I doing wrong?

I am surprised every one is so clueless, the solution is to drag the axe to the weapon selection slots at the bottom of the screen, which is where you would use the number key to select, so I dragged my AE to number 1 slot.

double click will auto apply it to first or next empty toolbelt/hotbar slot, then press that number, I was having a bug where tools would go back into inv after server update and couldn't put them back on the bar, solution was to drop it them on ground, then pickup and retry. seems to be fixed now though.

This isn't a clueless thing, its a poor direction thing. The interface points you to a right-click context menu, and there is a disabled Equip menu item there. Why wouldn't Equip do the same thing as double-click? Answer: It should.

I agree it should. However, these types of games are known for dragging and dropping on a toolbar slot.
