Any good Text based RP servers?

I've been playing for a week now on official and have gotten a pretty decent feel for the game, but since the event ended the gather rates are atrocious. I saw mention of DarksideRP on the official forums and went over to give it a look and saw it was all voice chat RP, and that was a bit of a turn off, everything else though sounded ideal. Just hate getting on the mic, especially when RP is involved cause it's too hard for me NOT to sound like some Washington State stoner stereotype :P

awww, you should give voice a solid try! Eh, not bother with text rp for a few years now, been voice only.. use to have fun with text rp on forums and stuff.. not in live action games though.
I mean, you are face to tace.. and being shot at.. how the heck to you text rp "AWWwwww! as you are running away".. by the time you type .. "screams in pain and... " your character is dead, laying on the ground. lolol. I do not like my voice much and as well, only have a small chunk of hours in a day where I can scream at the top of my lungs for Voice rp, makes it hard sometimes. Good luck finding a server for text rp :) heard there been some over the months on atlas, rather they are still going, no idea.

I might still give it a try because like I said, pretty much everything else about the server sounds ideal...it's just, phones and voice chat have always given me a bit of anxiety, even when I was young, and I've grit my teeth and bore it for things like raiding in WoW in the way back when, but only really spoke up when I needed too. Also living with other people does make it kinda weird, like the scenario you pointed out with only having a small timeframe where you can scream and such :P

No need to be hostile about it. There are texted based servers out there. Conan has them, ARK has them, even ATLAS has them somewhere. Pretty sure other games in this vein also have them somewhere. Games like WoW have servers for RP, both official and private, even dungeons and dragons is RP based in terms of interactions and that sure as hell doesn't require voice. Sure the RP is better with voice, but the option for texted based servers is still available for those that prefer that. If a server is going to be texted based, I'm sure they'll make the needed changes to make it viable.

So, let me take part of your response and change it up a bit... You sir "Well Butter my Biscuit", with your personality shown here, is the reason why this world is going to ♥♥♥♥, thanks.

I really do hope you give voice rp a try :) It may feel really weird at first, I know it did to me, but, it is a lot of fun. And if you decide it is a NOPE NOPE NOPE for ya, I understand the anxiety, was same here but, it has actually HELPED me over come it over the months. And if it does not work out, keep searching for that text based community you are more comfy with, on the side maybe?

I am gonna give Darkside a try and even asked a couple questions in the discord last night, right now trying to get the durned tattoo system at character creation to work before diving in :)

10/10 would prefer text based myself. I have a too heavy of a Geordie accent so tis hard for folk not from North East England to understand me, even folk two hours away in the North West have trouble understandin' so mic ain't my choice.

*chuckles* at least even a thick regional accent from the UK can sound piratey, being from the Pacific Northwest of the US, ours is sort of like someone took the Californian accent, then sped it up while mumbling

its absolutely possible to text RP in as you call action games ,was using just text thru years in LIF MMO heavy RP guild ...also alot ppl for whom english isnt national prefer to write than speak.

Many players would adore your voice, I mean.. many players have to make a Fake accent to achieve what you do normally. :P Sure, many will ask for a repeat but, they do that with tons as it is.. until they have heard that person talking enough to get the gist of the accent vs words. lol

About the rubberbanding, when did you try to log into it? there for a week or so a mod.. or rather the logs from that log was causing the freeports to LAG like mad but, they since figured out what it is and fixed it. ;)

Pssts, PNW here as well and while I was visiting NZ a couple years ago.. The merchants kept asking if was Canadian, from the way I spoke. EEK.

Was about 9:30 - 10:00 am pacific this morning. I was spawned on someone's owned island for some reason though it was a new character and it was in a quadrant the server listed as a freeport, it happened as soon as I got near some player buildings and as soon as it started I was pretty much rooted in place

Ah yeah, Atlas spawns you into the "freeport grid" If it was official.. all the islands there would be Freeport islands. Darkside, only 1 island is the actual freeport Island. Some keep dying hoping it puts them on the freeport island, others make a tiny shipyard/raft and sail out to find it (darskide's skills are modded and you can make a tiny ship yard right away, by taking the, third skill down) and others use the situation to try and find someone who lives on the island and get help, that way.
but, since you said it was just today, ya, as you say, lag muchly. How does your pc handle official servers?
