What Skills Are Needed To Do Treasure Maps?

I have found many treasure maps but they don't seem to work I see no indicators when in the area of the treasure. Everything is very unexplained when reading the skills and i am not sure what I need to do to allow myself to be able to find these treasures using the maps.

Can i just go get treasures using these maps or is there something in the skills i need to learn? I read the Piracy skills but i see nothing that states you can use and dig up treasure by learning such and such skills. I have learned the 1st 3 rows of Piracy skills, still see nothing and can't find any treasure. I have the map in my action bar and checked the whole area.

There will be a beam of light going up to the sky if you are in the right region. The best skill to get imo is the sight distance increase to see the location of the treasure.

Correct i am aware of the green beam of light, walked the whole island don't see it anywhere. I have learned Eagle eyes, improved eagle eyes and many many more. just doesn't work. Thanks not sure why this doesn't.

No skills are needed, but you do need to have the map slotted in your hotbar, just having it in your inventory isn't enough.

Once you have it slotted, the beam of light will appear once you get within a few hundred feet (Further with eagle eye), approaching the bottom of the beam will spawn a wave of undead. And if you defeat those, you just need to dig at the base of the beam with a shovel to claim your booty.

Is the map for the same region you are in? IE: M7 (Map will state which region the island is in)
In the case of Freeport regions (M7), there are 4 identical islands in the same region.

I understand that the map must be in hot bar, thanks. And yes i am in the correct region.

Keep in mind that each map can be rotated 90, 180, or 270 degrees from the normal view you see when you press M. Also some grids have identical shaped islands except that the island is rotated 90, 180, or 270 degrees. The map can match any of the identical islands and doesn't need to be rotated the same way to match the island.

Best start with treasure hunting is to find a map that can only possibly match one island and then find it. Once you do, it will all start to make sense.

If you're in the correct spot of the correct island in the correct region, then you should see the beam of light once you get close enough to the treasure. If you don't see the beam, the only thing I can think of is that you are in a Freeport region but on the wrong island. There are 4 identical islands in freeports that you must check. Note that the map orientation may not match the actual island orientation.
