Nope. All you can do is build out the decks with walls and make it look a little different. You can paint it and the sails a variety of colors. Most of the content is cosmetic.

The hull is always the same for each class, but you can build out the decks and sail types how you want.

the hull of the ship is predetermined by boat type, but the look of the inside and anything above the top deck can be customized quite a bit. If you custumize too much you can affect your ships weight as each ship has a weight limit and every extra wood piece you put on adds more weight.

Ive seen people that don't care and they build hotel looking boats.
