Can you remove a steering wheel from a ship to put it somewhere else?

I'd like to change the location of the steering wheel on my ship but I am not sure if I can safely remove it and put another one without anything bad happening

as long as your ship is anchored you will be fine. Just a warning. You will have to demolish the first steering wheel first, and then place the second steering wheel. It won't allow two steering wheels at the same time

You don't even need to be anchored to replace it, it's just good practice.

Source: Had the wheel blown off in combat one time and had to replace it mid battle :p

Heh, I mean, you can lose your steering wheel in combat if its hit, so yeah, you can place a new one in fact, you can place it at the very front of the ship if thats your thing. People build insane aftercastles at the back of ships sometimes and place the wheel up there. Another thing to check when placing your wheel, be sure no structures are too close or else it wont let you go into 3rd person when on it.. so place, hop on and check, each time (since you can pick it back up for a few secs after placement if need)

Tools you should carry on ship when sailing. Bucket, Hammer, Extra planks/gunports, an extra sail and a spare wheel. Those items have saved many ships from sinking. :P

Yeah, when it breaks in combat you still have that waiting period before you can place it and I think you cant place on a recently damaged piece of flooring as well?
I saw one group lose their entire top deck once and it was pure panic of buckets and a captain trying to place another wheel down, there for a bit lolol They did save the ship from crashing and or sinking though, was great team work lol
