You will find out that feeding any kinds of animals is not really hard if you have done it several times. You will know where to stand and when to feed.
Sry for that english xD
Taming birds is sketchy. So easy to unintentionally kill them if you get a head hit on them. Lost a beautiful parrot I wanted due to that.
Taming a horse though... urgh... If we could stop it running away or be certain which way it would run, so we could position a tame pen, but no, instead you almost have to rely on them getting stuck somewhere.
At some point, when I don't have 50 other things planned, I want to do some experiments though. I'm going to try using a blackjack, probably a nice BP one for max torpor, and try to knock out a bird and drag it into a taming pen. With a horse, I'll try letting a monkey loose on it, to keep it from running hopefully long enough to KO it and either drag it to a pen or build a pen around it.
Giga? perhaps how easy it is to SOLO tame a tapejara or a that other bigger bird?(forgot its name)
no thanks. atlas taming is cake in comparison and I can do it within a few minutes.
make a cage, find a horse, place cage over horse, beat horse with something, bola and feed.
horses are the easiest animal to catch and tame.
i have tamed everything now except the giant tortugar, and i can tell you there is a super easy way to tame them all.
I stopped using traps to tame stuff months ago. I use a bear for just about everything.
I think a more valid comparison of taming effort would be something like a giga or quetz versus taming the drake or one of the other boss monsters. In which case, I'll take the giga or quetz any day.
I caught my first lvl 30 horse that way.
btw similar tactic works on crows. ecept i quickly place a foundation down 4 walls, ceiling and door, then remove cage and walk in with bola and i fist fight the crows down.
But, yeah, okay, I'll try the cage thing next time I need to tame a horse.
Lol... Thought the same. Cheesy mechanic. The logic of the cage is there, but being able to clip the cage over the animal.... A bit cheesy. But if it works..... It's good. Tamed my first horse when it got stuck on a stair case......and I thought that was a bit cheesy. Placing food in a cage to lure the animal inside is logical...but no mechanic for that....go figure.
This needs getting used to, I guess. I preffers the Ark way, but then I play solo and I have shorten the time for taming. So it's not a big bother, just enough for keeping me on my toes.

The tips and tricks of holding a beast still from Ark, works in Atlas, as well Atlas has a couple extra ones, people might not think of using (like the cage trick) hehe
i did retarded amounts of breeding in ark. i dont miss it.
i'm doing some in atlas but mostly as i need it. i've tamed a few things i have no use for just for fun. few days ago i tamed a crab. turns out theres a pretty good use for it in pve.
i can travel thru an island pretty darn fast, its got high carry weight and as a bonus i can use it to scout for tames and carry them if i find one. well the small animals anyways.
and it looks cool as hell as an ornament on the back of my galleon.
the only one i can't find is that giant tortugar, but im not exactly trying that hard to find it.
