Dealing with Heatwaves at low level
Got Atlas (was on sale, only cost me $14) purely for the Single Player (great addition to the game, I must say - we'll see how well it translates to the in-game activities). I play ARK fairly often so the basic game mechanics I understand.

However I seem to be extremely vulnerable to heatwaves. A 52C heatwave is 100% fatal within 60 seconds. Even underwater I cannot escape it, unless I dive to the ocean floor. There's probably a slider somewhere that handles it, but I'm curious to know what everyone else does at low level to mitigate the heat? I've almost entirely focused on fortitude to try and beat the heat but it just prolongs the inevitable.

You need to start in a more controlled climate until your stats are up and gear also dissipates some heat.
Have not played much of late but if you can craft some green "tier" cloth, that should mitigate heat and get your ummm stat that is near the bottom up,starts at 0.I forget what it is called, vitality, endurance idk i forget but the higher it gets the more durable you are.Basically just reset to a different zone, like temperate or a colder zone but then you need to constantly find warmth in colder zones, like several fires around you.

Honestly, the developer has never got the settings right and why i only play on private servers.

i think hes aware of the "Fortitude" stat its similar to ark you put points into it and you can mitigate the heat/cold weather effects better but hes speaking as a freshly spawned level 1 you can only live at one of 4 areas at the start right? so how do you deal with the heatwave if you have to farm for you raft and get away from the zone/island heatwave in less then 2mins before it cooks you alive ?

You got it Kromster. Kinda hard to build a raft (I went for a Sloop, just have to manage both sails myself currently) when you're dying every few minutes due to the heatwave.

Higher quality gear is currently outside my capabilities, and I'm leveling fortitude as best I can but I can tell this is going to be a continuous problem until I level Fortitude substantially.

you die in seconds on some islands because of normal heat even with vit buff on

on our server we made when it was up the islands we had clashed abit cuse to close so rest the island had cold fronts and death heat wave but center of it was considerd ocean due to the wierd island set up[ our first attempt at makeing a server] so we made that center point a bug out shelter lol

topic is about singleplayer

same thing happend areas on the server thus could happen in single player depending on biome and map grid location and island type

Ok so the way I have been getting around this at the start of a game is before clicking the play single player button go to advanced settings, scroll all the way down to player stats per level. Max out Temp and Temp Fort. Craft spears as soon as possible. dive in the ocean (be aware of sharks and manta) Kill fish and lvl fortitude at least a few times. make cloth armor with the skins. If you can do that before a heat wave you MIGHT survive. When the heat wave hits if you haven't made a house yet find the fresh water pool. hit C repeatedly to stay wet and stay in a shaded part of the pool if possible. After you lvl some you can slowly decrease the advanced settings.

i didn't worry too much about dying when i started. while i did TRY to remedy the heat wave by diving into the water, i eventually gave up and just kept grinding materials for a sloop from the dock NPC. i then headed to temperate area where i could better cope/live with the heatwaves. northeast or northwest, depending on where you start to one of the code 5 zones. i went to M5.

Just ignore it to be honest...even with cloth armour and 100 fortitude + Equilibrium boost and being 100% wet underwater, you will still die to heat waves in some zones (although slowly at that point), its stupid...unless you have some high quality armour or jacked up fortitude rates, just go to a different biome, i.e. temperate which is much nicer and easier to deal with

In hot areas, you may need to spend time indoors or near water to cool off when heat waves hit, the same will be true in cold climates where so gold even common fur is not enough. The weather is much more of a factor in this game than in ARK. I usually spend my first 10 levels on fortitude, and usually pend more on it than any other stat, over the life of the character.

Monkey for your shoulder or a Parrot along with a fortitude build

the higher level the shoulder pet the more of a buff or debuff it'll bring as well as some foods

Everyone dies form heatwaves when they first start out, everyone.. :P well generally. Once you start leveling up, its not so bad (does not mean you can ignore them totally though). I am in the opinion that they should not have the freeport/starter grid with such harsh weather. However, with the new game plan that was gone over, it seems they may throttle back on many of what kills you atm, debuff stuff. Will have to wait and see, though. IMO, hope they dont strip the survival completely out of the game. :/

As far as water, being wet does cool you down some but, during really hot temps, not enough.
If you are on an island and jump into the water, it may not be enough.. Grids have Global temps and Islands have their own temp that is a pluss or minus of the global one and the shore around the island is within the Islands temp range still... So, out away from an island and you are in the Global temp, usually cooler and if you go into water there, could even get cold. (it hotter grids).. lol. Oh, and oceans have their own temp ranges as well... layered so the deep parts are real cold. top part, may share the same as the Global temps or Island temps, though. (global/islands over ride the ocean's surface)

I have one base in a desert grid, I have a wading pool inside my base, not deep enough to just walk in but, If I step in and X to try to prone, it will get me wet and I will stand back up. *nod nod* lol

Extreme heat wave is very unrealistic. Anything that hot that can kill a human in 60 seconds or so is going to kill everything else and probably set fire to plant life.
I'm not level 1. More like level 40. I have been putting points into fortitude. And I get "extreme heat wave seek shelter". 60 seconds or less and I'm dead. Just enough time to transfer your inventory to your tame and ensure their set to neutral. It's happen twice. Devs saying your dead now deal with it at random.
