On topic though, water spouts don't do much damage at all, and are very easily avoided. If the occasional one hits you, it's damage is so negligible that it doesn't matter, unless you're terrible at maintaining your ship, in which case, you deserve to lose it to a storm. The water spouts aren't meant to be a literal thing, just a representation of a terrible storm, that would probably in reality sink most ships caught in it. Please stop coming to the forums and posting ragebaby threads because you don't know how to avoid simple things like water spouts during a storm.
the spouts spawn far to much and in front of your ship making it impossible to avoid. multiple times, and when they follow you it's just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
In all honesty, there needs to be more danger involved in sailing in storms. Not less.
Notice that if you see one forming and then look away it disappears. Hence the hiding in cover and not looking at sea.
than being said.
on a schooner, or brig they are just annoying but easily avoidable.
on a galleon they can be deadly because you can't avoid them ..HOWEVER. the spout spawns follow your front vision. so learn to sail while facing backwards and you can minimize spout danger like 90%. The only danger is running into a apack of SODs, so just take quick peeks to the front to check.
You take more damage yourself than the ship does.
Spouts start forming and you just steer around them in random directions waiting for them to stop then continue on your way.
Travelling takes long enough without wasting time on the storms.
The whole thing should be redesigned. Make it 1 proper cyclone that takes up like 1/4 of the tile and you take damage depending how close you are to its centre or something. That way you can choose to take damage and get to your destination quicker or sail around it. Sailing closer would give stronger wind to travel faster but going around, less wind.
Actual Squalls and cyclones would be amazing but the current spout system is down right retarded.
I have no issues avoiding them but they are just an annoying frame rate drop at this point. and as stated above, build a hut on your ship and go in it during a storm. they wont form if you dont have visuals on sea OR just look away when they start to form
Its broken and stupid. Id much prefer rogue waves and a full blown hurricane or cyclone that can help you fast travel if you stay near the edge of it. Can do damage to thatch and wood structures on land when they make land fall ect...
