Thanks for the info.
I can see how those RAM / HD space requirements can really limit how many tiles you're hosting, but who wants to play on just a couple tiles due to h/w requirements, or pay upwards to $100./month for only 6 servers? A 5x5 grid might work for a small group of players, but it just seems like Too much $$ for not enough game map.
Also, as far as end game. How do you fit in all the power stones, Maw, polar dungeon into one game tile?
Are there any other options or am I missing something? I'd really appreciate hearing from folks hosting private servers - Thanks!
The maps are made using the server grid editor. You basically set the region's climate, then add/edit islands. You could possibly set up a single grid with most of the island types, but I doubt you could put the maw and everything else into the same grid. The grid editor creates a JSON file that basically configures your grid servers (you need to edit this file manually to point each grid to it's server IP) and a bunch of images for the region maps that need to be placed in the corresponding folder on your server.
The grid editor can be found here -> https://github.com/GrapeshotGames/ServerGridEditor
You might want to have a play around with it and get an idea of how it functions, you'll probably learn most of what you want to know from it. There's also a guide somewhere on how to set up your own small server.
Grapeshot on a small server/single player map for Atlas.
But you can fit everything into a 2x2 map just fyi.
Have to say though, some map editing (for dummies) would be sweet.
I've said from the beginning, that whoever did up ARK's "The Centre" map should be hired to do up a world for Atlas. Such an obvious labour of love with eye candy around every corner - an explorers dream.
