ATLAS

I lost my Character, and everything in the game.
I have been playing single player Atlas for 183 hours, and really enjoying the game, then I had a game crash and when I tried to reload my game, it kept going to the new character creation screen. I tried everything but could not get my game to load. I'm absolutely gutted. I have put so much into this game. I had several high level tames, three ships, including a brig and a massive base that I put my heart and soul into, and it is now all gone. I'm hoping that someone may know of a way to retrieve my game. I did not create a new character, and to be honest, I simply do not have the heart at the moment to even think about starting a new game, so if anyone knows of any way I may be able to get my game back, I would be eternally grateful.

Go here. There is previous backup saves that Atlas makes.

SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\ATLAS\ShooterGame\Saved\BlackwoodSavedAtlasLocal or SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\ATLAS\ShooterGame\Saved\SavedAtlasLocal

Go ahead and make a copy of SavedAtlasLocal folder somewhere else.

Look for latest AntiCorruptionbackup.bak file and rename that to latest ocean file like ocean_13_13.Atlas, etc. Delete the latest ocean file first.

are you talking about single player mode or official servers?

His first sentence clarifies that.

I'm playing single player, and I have already tried making a backup of the SavedAtlasLocal folder, and renaming/deleting the ocean_**_**.Atlas and AntiCorruptionbackup.bak files, but that did not work. I'm thinking that this only works if your playing PVE/PVP

Those files are local single player. I only play single player too and I always used it and it works fine for me. You sure you only renamed AntiCorruptionbackup.bak to ocean_**_**.Atlas? Try earlier backup?

I never tried this but you can try removing all ocean files but one so game won't try to load up other ocean files but the one you the file to ocean.
If that don't work, I don't know what to tell you. Localplayer and arktribe file might be corrupted or overwritten somehow.

These are the first few lines from my SavedAtlasLocal file:

LocalPlayer.arkprofile
LocalPlayer.playerentities
ocean_3_4.atlas
LocalPlayer.profilebak
1158966139.tribebak
ocean_3_4_AntiCorruptionBackup.bak
1158966139.arktribe
LastGridCoord_76561198007140734
ocean_4_4.atlas
ocean_4_4_AntiCorruptionBackup.bak
ocean_4_3.atlas
ocean_4_3_AntiCorruptionBackup.bak
ocean_5_3.atlas
ocean_3_3.atlas
ocean_3_3_AntiCorruptionBackup.bak

So what files would need to be deleted, changed, or overwritten. I think if I remember correctly that I tried changing several of these already, but I don't understand what each of the files here are actually for, and what they do.

If those files is sorted by date modified newest to old. Rename ocean_3_4_AntiCorruptionBackup.bak to ocean_3_4.atlas. If not working, then try renaming ocean_4_4_AntiCorruptionBackup.bak to ocean_3_4.atlas. Or rename one of backup.bak to ocean_3_4.atlas if the file date is before the crash.

I tried doing what you suggested and deleting and renaming my files to several days before the crash, but it still keeps taking me to the character creation screen, so I'm guessing this is never gonna work. It seems like something somewhere has got badly corrupted, so I'm just gonna have to face the fact that my game is gone forever. I would like to thank you though for your suggestions.

Never tried this but weird one. One last chance. If you already made those save backups, go ahead and make a new character to create new saves, merge the old ocean file into it. You might be able to recover some stuff and use console command to get other stuff back as close as possible.

Not quite sure what you mean. How do you merge files? and another thing is, I don't think this would get back any of my tames. I would be starting at a very low level again, so would have to spend ages re-levelling, and to be honest, I think it would be just like restarting the whole game all over again, not to mention the fact that this has happened once, and may happen again, and I think because of that one fact, I would rather wait until the devs fix this problem, if they ever do. But thanks for the suggestion.

What I mean is that you delete SavedAtlasLocal folder. Make sure you have that folder saved somewhere else so you can merge. Game should create new save by starting over. Then get rid of any ocean file in that new SavedAtlasLocal folder. Drag the old ocean file from backup folder you made somewhere else into new SavedAtlasLocal folder. I am thinking that your non-ocean files is corrupted.

It probably won't work. Long shot.

I would probably take a year break if that happens to me. So I understand that you rather wait for the fix.

I think I understand what you mean. I may give it a try, and we'll call it one more roll of the dice.
Same thing happened to me, solution doesnt work. I uninstalled. So frustrating to lose hundred hours of time.

hate to be the odd one out but have you tried biting the bullet and creating your own private server? That's the solution in my opinion, if you rent a 1x1 it's 15 dollars a month, if you rent a 4x4 (16 grids) it's 252 dollars a month. If you make a ticket at survivalservers.com you can ask them what the cost of a 10x10 is and then it's 25% cheaper if you do it annually. This way you have the added benefit of letting 1000 players play with you and probably absolutely nobody will so it's just as good as single player and you can design it however you like and include mod islands ect ect. You can even re design any element of the game with the Atlas Developers Kit. Then once your term ends you can renew again to keep your game going. I can almost guarantee that it will never randomly delete your character if you're doing it this way. It's only the single player game that's screwed up, and to be honest i don't think it was ever meant to be a single player game it's just there to practice things for your online prowess and some people would prefer it to human competition.
